“Wonderful hotel in a good location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2013

We stayed here for 4 nights and we will come back as well. It is a beautiful tower building with nice and comfortable rooms with air condition. Reasonable rate for dinner and very friendly service in the restaurant and also at the reception.

Driving into Budapest we caught sight of this hotel, it stood out in the area, there were some renovations still being done in the dining room but it did not interfere with our stay and were actually completed by the next day. Bed was comfortable, the room well presented and clean, the shower was good. Lots to eat at breakfast, a wide selection of cold foods and you could have hot food if you wanted.
Good location, straight down the hill and over the bridge into the main shops/bars/retuarants area, about a 15 minute walk.
The hotel is manned 24 hours a day by English speaking staff who were really lovely, friendly and very helpful, gave us lots of practical tips and advice.
Very good value for money, would definitely stay there again.

Although the room was small relative to American standards, it was typical for Europe, attractively decorated, comfortable, and very clean. The bathroom was especially nice. The outstanding service was perhaps the best attribute. I highly recommend staying here and if I ever return to Budapest, this is where I'll stay without a doubt.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 12, 2013

When we arrived at the hotel we were quite concerned to see that there were building works going on and there was no apparent reception or anyone to greet us. We walked around the building twice and were starting to panic, when a member of staff saw us and came outside. He explained that the hotel renovations had taken longer than planned and as a result the hotel was still closed. We were given a room in the apartment block next door instead.

The apartment was very spacious with 2 bedrooms, bathroom and a kitchen/dining area. The decor was a little tired but no big deal. Cleanliness was reasonable, apart from a couple of cigarette butts floating in the toilet! Breakfast was left in the kitchen for us, which included cereals, meat/cheese plate, bread with butter/jam/soft cheese, fruit and orange juice. There was also a mini bar with soft drinks etc, but we did not use this.

The location is reasonable, about a 20 minute walk over the river into the main shopping area of Budapest. The hotel is up a big hill so not ideal for those less mobile, although there are good transport links and buses stop right outside. There is not much to do in the immediate area. We went to one restaurant down the road in the Charles Hotel which was good food and reasonably priced, although the service was a bit slow. Apart from that there didn't seem to be anything to eat nearby so we ended up walking back into the city most nights.

The bed is comfortable and we generally slept well, apart from one night when there was a bit of shouting going on in the street outside!

This hotel's strength would definitely be the staff, who spoke great English and could not be more helpful. They offered to book taxis etc for us if necessary. They also came to check one day that we were happy with the breakfast, as the housekeeper was concerned we had not eaten very much! There were no toiletries or anything in the bathroom but luckily we had brought our own, and no doubt the staff would have tried to provide some if we had asked.

The renovations seem to be coming along nicely and once complete this hotel should be a good choice for the price.

We were offered free upgrade to spacious 2 room apartment with balcony - really nice offer.
Location is very good if you like to explore city by foot or using public transport (by foot : Pest city centre 20min, Old Buda area 10min, Citadel 10mins..) Bus stop in front of the hotel. If you arrive by car good option is to leave car on safe hotel parking lot (charge 10eur/day). WiFi is free of charge but was not always available at the apartments area, in main hotel building it was running perfect.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 15, 2012

We travelled as part of a group of 24 adults and occupied 12 rooms. We stayed for 3 nights and for a cheap city break it was ok. Its located on the buda side of the Danube on a really busy main road but only 10 to 15 mins walk to the river and across to the Pest side. The Buda side is hilly and residential whilst the Pest side is where bars, restaurants and shopping are located.

Budapest is a lovely city and we would highly recommend it. The hotel is dated but clean. There is no bar, you have to order drinks from reception and sit outside. Very poor selection of drinks and the first night after a group of us had ordered a couple of rounds they had run out of beer. The restaurant was only open for breakfast which was poor and constantly running out of things and not everything got replenished. If you left it untill the last half hour there was practically nothing left.

Our room was ok but dated. The air con in the room was not powerful enough, we still had to sleep without any covers. The bathroom had a shower over the bath which was hand held and hooked on the wall far too low and instead of being on the wall above the taps was on the side wall parallel to the bath. It was difficult to use and totally dangerous as I found out after slipping and falling backwards out of the bath and landing on my back on the floor. I was very lucky to to be just bruised. I am fit and healthy so dread to think how somebody less able would have coped. Some rooms have walk in showers so I would recommend if booking to check which type of shower you have.

The reception staff were very helpful with ordering taxis or answering any questions.

We didnt spend much time in the hotel but its not the sort of hotel that encourages you to stay in . As we were in a group we did have some drinks in the hotel but the only place to sit is outside and this is a very small area and you need to have good weather but fortunately we did.

The hotel is under going some renovations but not sure how extensive they will be.

Room Tip: Rooms are not all the same and the bathrooms vary so would recommend asking for a walk in shower.

We stayed in this hotel for 5 nights.

The good points:
We were happy with our rooms, which were of a good size and had good en-suite shower rooms. They were cleaned to a fairly good standard and the towels were changed daily.
Room 34, a double, overlooked a side road. We were concerned that the air-conditioning might keep us awake but it didn't. The beds were very comfortable.
Room 31, a twin, was a corner room and had windows overlooking both a side road and the main road, but the double glazing is very effective and there was no noise from traffic. This room also had a window in the en-suite.

The outside of the hotel was being redecorated but this did not affect us.

We liked the location of the hotel as it was only a 10-minute downhill walk to the Danube. In the mornings we walked most of the way through the gardens but didn't fancy walking through there after dark.

Almost next door to the hotel was a little general stores, open 24 hours a day, which we used to buy water and snacks for our days out. We usually got the water on our way back to the hotel and left it in the minibar in our room overnight, to chill it for the following day.

The bad points:
The restaurant is NOT open for lunches or evening meals - we never did find out why. It's advertised in the hotel's lift as being open. On arrival, we were directed to another restaurant about a 10-minute steep uphill walk away which was rather pricy. They were expecting us so I think the receptionist might have phoned ahead.

We felt that the breakfast was poor. There were only 4 hot choices: scrambled egg, scrambled egg with pork (bacon?) and onions, small frankfurter-type sausages stuffed with a little cheese, and a tomato/onion mixture. The brochure stated that "gourmet omelettes" are available but when we asked, we were told no. We were disappointed with the hot breakfasts as we usually rely on these to get us through the day without bothering to stop for a meal at lunchtime. There was plenty of bread for toasting but the rolls, the best bread choice, ran out well before the end of breakfast service and were not replenished. The fresh fruit was usually just a choice of watermelon slices and some tired-looking oranges, although sometimes there were a few plums available. There was only ever two types of yogurt on any one day, one plain and jsut one flavour. All in all, we felt that the food, or lack of it, let this hotel down.

Room Tip: We were happy with Rooms 31 and 34.
