My husband had talked about going to Budapest and taking me to a hotel where he had been taken for Tea about 40 years ago! Never in a million years did I expect to be staying there. However, by dint of using the trip advisor site, we found a good deal and went for 4 nights. We were rather tired on arriving as it had taken quite a long time, but when we walked through the doors, that was when the 'WOW' factor came into play. The entrance hall was so large and stretching out in front of you was an amazingly large staircase, just like one out of an old film. There were enormous mirrors all round, and the stairs seemed to go on for ever.
I had asked for a room near to a lift, as I had mobility problems, and sure enough, we were given one right next to it. The bedroom was lovely and spacious and although it seemed very warm in the room, we were easily able to adjust the air conditioning until it was quite chilly. The bathroom looked new, and was a good size with plenty of toiletries which were replaced daily. We did have a little communication problem when my husband asked if we could have two extra duvets to soften the mattress. I had just had a shower and was in my bathrobe when there was a knock at the door, and outside were two ladies from housekeeping bearing the most enormous wooden object, larger than the door, which they were intending to put under the mattress!! It took a little while to get them to understand what I really wanted, but eventually it happened.
We didn't eat and drink in the hotel, as it seemed to be rather expensive - beer working out at about £10 per pint, and bottled water in the room about £6 - beware - it isn't complimentary! There were plenty of restaurants and bars nearby and we used these.
We tried the spa on the last day, and the pool and jacuzzis were lovely - didn't have time for a treatment.
We found most of the staff to be very helpful, and most people on reception had an excellent knowledge of English.
