“Elegant classic hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 27, 2013

This hotel has been beautifully restored and is a beautiful classic. Room was very nice. Service was excellent. Location is also excellent. The only reason I didn't give this hotel five stars is that it was noticably more expensive, both the room and the restaurant, than the other hotel we stayed at in Budapest that was essentially as good.

Amazing Spa hotel, very grand. Great service and fair proximity to river (we like to walk - if you prefer the escalators to the stairs, or if it is peak summer, then this could be a bit far away from downtown for you). Nothing was any trouble to staff, we felt very special during our stay. Take your swimmers, the spa facilities in the basement are lovely. The nightclub downstairs was really nice, too. We plan to return to Budapest and Corinthia will be at the top of our list.

While I agree with others that this is a first rate hotel on most points, my particular room, while comfortable, was noisier than I would like.

We were on the fifth floor and our window overlooked one of the inner atriums, while our door faced onto the corridor which overlooked the main lobby and staircase.

One afternoon, while we would have like a quick snooze, there was a band playing in the inner atrium which, even with the window closed we could hear quite clearly. No peace here then.

On our second morning we were woken at 5am by a group of people who had congregated on the main staircase and were chatting, talking and shouting as though it was 5 in the afternoon. A call to the reception desk (engaged for some time since I presume others were also calling) put an end to the noise, but why did the reception staff not have the sense to move these people to somewhere where they would not disturb other guests BEFORE they woke everyone up?

Others of my group had rooms on the back of the hotel or away from the atriums and main lobby and said these were very quiet. So, when I return to Budapest, I'll know to ask for one of these.

We also had strange banging sounds coming from above us although there were no rooms above our floor. Hubby concluded that the air conditioning vents and pipes, which were visible on the roof or some other equipment up there was 'venting' at times. Again reception could offer no explanation of such noise.

So, no upper floor or facing the lobby for me next time.

This hotel is beautiful. The entrance looks very classy and the staff helping you with check-in are very friendly. The breakfast is delicious, there is a great variety of dishes and fresh juices, etc.
The location of the hotel is also very good: it is close to the city centre and there's many coffee places and bars in the area around the hotel.

This hotel was wonderful. Beautiful decor. Exceptionally clean throughout. Plenty of choice of food and restaurants in the hotel itself. Staff very polite and helpful with good standard of English. Tram stops putside hotel, which is useful for getting around this interesting city. Spa and pool well kept. Can't think of anything I could criticise, except very minor things which are insignificant.

Visiting Budapest for the first time as a wedding anniversary present for ourselves, my wife and I both enjoyed our stay at the Corinthia Hotel. We had a corner room 3200 with a balcony with a fantastic view up and down the main road. For us the hotel was ideally situated with easy access to trams and metro, Kiraly St with loads of places for breakfast and evening meals. The Spa was also a delight after a hard day's sightseeing. Staff were very helpful but also not intrusive. We'd certainly come back!

We booked this hotel for my 30th Birthday trip to Budapest, and I can honestly say this is the best hotel ive stayed in, the building is a piece off art, inside and out, the rooms are to a very high standard, the hotel offers all the 5 star perks aswell as a spa which is awesome, room service is available 24 hour and aint too pricey, the staff are very professional. The hotel is ideally situated near to everything and is very close to local underground station at the Octogon station, we stayed in March and it snowed when we stayed, we found it very cosy, the rooms are well fitted out and have pay per view films, value for money wise, this place is unreal, a hotel off this kind in NYC or London would cost over 5 times the amount, if your a couple planning a trip to Budapest, then look no further, this place is a gem, I would love to try some off the other Corinthia Hotels, enjoy your stay!

Hotel Class:5 star — Corinthia Hotel Budapest 5*
Number of rooms: 440
Official Description (provided by the hotel):
First opened in 1896 as the Grand Hotel Royal; a hub for the elite of nineteenth century society, and painstakingly restored to its original glory some hundred years later, the Corinthia Budapest – located in the heart of the city - brings together classic hotel opulence with the finest five-star luxury of modern times. While the gracious frontage, marble floors, sweeping staircase and breathtaking, six-story Atrium preserved from the original building offer glorious hints of a bygone age, the levels of comfort and convenience are all reassuringly up to date.A particular feature is the hotel’s original Royal Spa centre, with 15-metre pool, now extensively refurbished by the current owners to reflect the very best in 21st-century spa luxury while retaining the grandeur of the past. Without doubt the finest hotel in Budapest. Built in classic French Renaissance style, the Grand Royal became a beacon of luxury in the days of Emperor Franz Joseph 1. Designed as a centrepiece of Hungary’s celebrations to mark its first thousand years, the hotel’s grand-style architecture and unrivaled guest facilities were seen as state-of the art for the times. Much of the building was destroyed in the 1956 Hungarian Revolution and despite re-opening in more modest form in the 1960’s, the Grand Royal remained a shadow of its former self until the 1990’s; when new owners Corinthia Hotels gave the green light for an extensive restoration project that would retain the best of the old, while sensitively adding the new. Once restored to its original splendour, the newly named Corinthia Hotel Budapest re-opened its doors, as a five-star luxury property, in 2003. ... more   less
