“Elegant central hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

The Cornithia is an elegant hotel centrally located and within walking distance of many of the main attractions in Budapest. The staff are all very professional and pleasant. We ate in Rickshaw - the hotel's asian/chinese restaurant and the food and service were faultless (Approx. £70 for two people two courses plus wine). Our room was great, very spacious and well equipped (we booked the superior double which is the most basic grade room) and the Royal spa (featuring 15m pool, relaxation area etc) is really nice and free to hotel guests. Breakfasts are also good. This hotel definitely lives up to its 5 star grading and I hope to be back soon. I booked my room through Travel Republic - great rates and UK based call centre service.

Room Tip: Even the most basic room grade is still very luxurious

We book this hotel for a Xmas/New Year break for 4 nights and was very impressed with the hotel.

Hotel: Quite posh, huge entrance/lobby which instantly makes an impression. Bars and restaraunts in the hotel look amazing however we didn't use them as we spent most of the time out round the city. They seemed on the more expensive side as you would expect, but not too bad. We also tried out the spa one day, which was fantastic, probably one of the better ones I've been in. All the usual things, but really high quality.

Rooms: Great, large, sofas, great shower, large bathroom, big tv, hugh bed (although just two singles pushed together, annoying), mini bar, tea and coffee, obviously clean. What more do you want.

Location: We found the location great. Set back a good distance from the river on a main road with all transport systems very close....underground, trams, buses etc. If you want to be right on the river, then this hotel isn't for you, as it's a good 15 minute walk, but we really enjoyed this as you get to walk through all the streets and find crazy little bars and restaurants Convenient Starbucks 50yds away for a cheap breakfast. There's a fantastic street nearby with many great bars and restaurants just round the corner, various types of food. Just ask some one where "Hooters" is (I know it sounds crazy, but Hooters is on this road and will get you right to the place). One thing about been set away from the river is its a lot cheaper for drinks and food, if you have a good look around you can get a beer for 80p and a wine for 60p!!!!!

I would definitely stay in this hotel again, as it's one of the nicest I've stayed!

This hotel is perfect for a short break in Budapest. Its walking distant to pretty much all the main attractions (in 3 days, we only got 1 taxi and that was to the thermal baths). The hotel is beautiful and definitely warrants everyone of its 5 stars. The standard rooms were also to a very high standard and of a very good size and immaculately clean.

Their spa facility which is free for guests is amazing!! Definitely make th most of it and spend a few hours down there if you can...

Highligh recommend.

My husband and I recently stayed at the Corinthia Hotel for 3 nights to celebrate my birthday. Everything was perfect. On arrival we were upgraded to a complementary deluxe suite of rooms complete with a bottle of wine, chocolates and fruit laid out, which was a lovely surprise! The hotel was impressive with a beautiful marble staircase and grand foyer; the flower arrangements are also worth mentioning as they were beautiful. The service was first class, everything was spotless, the rooms were very comfortable and the breakfasts excellent. Unfortunately the Spa pool was closed for maintenance which was a great shame.
We also visited the Bock Bistro attached to the Hotel for dinner. The service was exceptional and the Sommelier chose the wines and even my main dish as I trusted his judgement, which proved to be excellent. The atmosphere was buzzing with an accordionist playing in the background. I highly recommend this experience but you must book this as it is so popular.
I also recommend you visit the stunningly beautiful New York Café described as the best café in the world, complete with the romantic music of Love Story and Charles Aznavour playing in the background. An ideal place to pop the question!
Great visit to Budapest.

This hotel was just as it appeared in pictures and its own publicity and didn't disappoint in any way. The extra we paid for the executive lounge turned out to be well worth it as the snacks and drinks were of excellent quality, always fresh and continually replenished.

Budapest is a beautiful and interesting city. The views from the Buda side are really worth the effort of getting up to the various vantage points; Gellert Hill and the Fisherman's Bastion, being especially notable. River cruises are good too and anyone who likes transport that runs on rails (as I do), will enjoy the comprehensive tram system. The city is quite compact and walk-able, has excellent shopping, fine architecture and good food and drink of every stripe. Prices are fair for a big city and if you take your refreshments a couple of hundred meters away from the tourist areas, you will be rewarded with significantly lower prices. As with most city's you can 'do' the main sites in three days but Budapest lends itself to long relaxing afternoons at a street cafe's, so a couple of extra days won't be wasted.

A very nice place to stay in Budapest that is not expensive for North Americans. Great service. Lovely rooms. Marvelous spa. Breakfast is exceptional. Close to a variety of good restaurants and a deluxe shopping street, Andrassy Vac. Recommended without reservation to anyone.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
First opened in 1896 as the Grand Hotel Royal; a hub for the elite of nineteenth century society, and painstakingly restored to its original glory some hundred years later, the Corinthia Budapest – located in the heart of the city - brings together classic hotel opulence with the finest five-star luxury of modern times. While the gracious frontage, marble floors, sweeping staircase and breathtaking, six-story Atrium preserved from the original building offer glorious hints of a bygone age, the levels of comfort and convenience are all reassuringly up to date.A particular feature is the hotel’s original Royal Spa centre, with 15-metre pool, now extensively refurbished by the current owners to reflect the very best in 21st-century spa luxury while retaining the grandeur of the past. Without doubt the finest hotel in Budapest. Built in classic French Renaissance style, the Grand Royal became a beacon of luxury in the days of Emperor Franz Joseph 1. Designed as a centrepiece of Hungary’s celebrations to mark its first thousand years, the hotel’s grand-style architecture and unrivaled guest facilities were seen as state-of the art for the times. Much of the building was destroyed in the 1956 Hungarian Revolution and despite re-opening in more modest form in the 1960’s, the Grand Royal remained a shadow of its former self until the 1990’s; when new owners Corinthia Hotels gave the green light for an extensive restoration project that would retain the best of the old, while sensitively adding the new. Once restored to its original splendour, the newly named Corinthia Hotel Budapest re-opened its doors, as a five-star luxury property, in 2003. ... more   less
