You´ll see pictures of the beautiful building and the fantastic baths and you´ll want to stay in the hotel...well I recommend you don´t.

The building is truly beautiful...well, watch it from the ouside - even the lobby is run down...
The baths are fantastic...true, buy a ticket to the baths, you don´t need to stay at the hotel to enjoy them...
The standard room, which is quite expensive (over 100 Euro a night), is simply appalling...old cheap furniture, chipped chairs and beds, crappy carpet, very small room - barely a meter and a half around the bed, we got one with views to an inside courtyard consisting of low roofs of buildings belonging to the hotel...the bathroom is dismal...do not stay in one of the "cheap" rooms.

About 15 minutes after check in I was down at the reception asking to get another room. I was willing to pay more but they said only the cheapest rooms were available, the rest were fully booked. Two more guests that had just checked into the "cheap" rooms in front of me were down there complaining as well. These rooms belonged in an old motel rather than a luxury hotel, believe me! but they were expensive!

We had booked for 4 nights - we spent the first night and then moved to the Danubius Grand Hotel Margitsziget (same company) for the next 3 nights. A beautiful modern hotel!

We just completed a 3 week stay in Eastern Europe and stayed at the Gellert for 3 nights. What a let down! The rooms are dated and have no air conditioning. It was hot when we were there and so we had to open our windows but that let in all the traffic noise. Our room overlooked tha river so that was nice, but the traffic never lets up. The rooms are large, but that is about all that you can say about them. The spa is supposedly famous but it was dingy and made us wonder about the cleanliness. It was nice to sit at the outside pool and enjoy the sun, however. The hotel needs a remodel in the worst way. The staff was aloof and not helpful at all. We could barely get them to give us directions to anyplace and they never would recommend any restaurants. They need a course on customer service. The breakfasts are wonderful with lots of choices but that is the best part of the hotel. The location is also good. We would not go back and know that there are many other hotels in the city that are a better value for the money.

The hotel is beautiful and classy, with friendly and skilled staff. You have free access to the Gellert Thermal spa through a private entrance (change to bathing cloth and bathrobe in your room, and go directly to the bath).

The room was nothing special, and in fact a bit run down, but ok.

I stayed here for two nights on 28 May in one of the cheap single rooms with no view - excellent value at £50 per night bed, breakfast and entry to the baths. The room was dated but quite adequate and clean in a 1950s kind of way.

The first night was fine and the baths are fabulous, however on night two I found a cockroache in the shower-room and one on the bedroom wall the next morning. It was very hot (90 degrees) and with no air conditioning I had the windows open, so I don't know if this is to be expected????? However, I would not stay here again because of the wildlife!!!

Stay somewhere more modern and air-conditioned and pay to enter the baths (thermal bath for men and women, sun terraces and indoor and outdoor swimming pools)!!!

The Gellert Hotel occupies a prominent location in Budapest, but sadly this is an expensive three-star hotel and just barely that! Our beds were miserably hard with thin mattresses, the headboards were ripped and torn, the shower had poor water pressure. We booked through expedia and paid over $225 per night for one room with a back view. We would have been better served at another three-star hotel with a lower price to match. Pay to use the Gellert Baths if you must, but staying at the Gellert Hotel is an expensive mistake.
