“Exactly what you'd expect”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2013

Eight of us spent 2 nights on a recent trip. We got exactly what we'd expect from Mecure - friendly helpful reception, clean comfortable rooms and excellent value for money. The hotel is a short (10 minutes) walk from the river and then a little way further to the main sights. It is close to some of the best bars to go party.

All in all very satisfied.I didn't eat there at any point so am not giving 5 stars as I don't know what the food was like, but I heard nothing bad said by anybody in the group.

We stayed at the hotel for 1 night on 28th March. The check in was smooth. The staff was very good at the reception. It was very nice to discuss about the city with hotel staff as not everybody in the city understands english.

The hotel is housed in a building which was originally built around 1896 i.e. same time as when the budapest metro was built. The only downside was that the size of the rooms was very small when compared to other Accor group properties. This maybe due to the hotel being set up in a very old historic building.

But the reception and dining area is very well spaced and good.

The location of the hotel is perfect. It is 1( or maybe 2 stops) stop away from Budapest Keleti railway station. Trains from Vienna arrrive at Budapest Keleti.

The hotel is also located very strategically , next to a metro station Blaha Lulza Ter( square). It is only 5-7 minutes walk through a series of shops. The area was safe.

Only the area in the subway at the Blaha Lulza square could be seen as slightly different because couple of homeless people might be seen there and at night they sit there. But ignoring them would be the best option and walk away. The other option is not enter the subway but cross the road from traffic lights.

Room Tip: Ask for a room which is not facing the main street , Rakozi Utza.....

I have been quite a few times in this hotel. Rooms are clean but small, hence you might lack of space for your suitcase.
Main advantage of this hotel is his central location with metro station/tramways very close and easy access by food to the train station.
Interesting deals if booked well in advance and pre-paid. You definitely can find better 4* hotels in Budapest but you will not have bad surprise if you book this one.

Stayed here for 3 nights in February, 2013. The lobby is nice and inviting. The single room was a little larger than average (for European size rooms) with very high ceilings. The room and bathroom were modern. Except for the size of the room, the hotel has the modern conveniences of an average American style hotel, with nicely lit hallways, restaurant and sitting areas in the lobby.

I'd recommend this hotel for its convenience to public transportation (trams and Metro is only a block away). Winter is the off-season, so check the www.accorhotels.com website for deals. You may be able to step up to Accors next level hotel (Novotel) for an equivalent price.

We loved this hotel, it was far more good than we had expected. We would definitely stay here again. The room was clean, spacious, we had an early check in, the breakfast was great, near the metro. We could't ask for more!

Great hotel, clean and modern rooms, free wifi in rooms, perfect location in the centre and next to major metro and tram lines. Nice people at the reception. We found a great offer on easyjet.com for the flights and the hotel and we were very happy. The reception organized the transfer back to the airport, it was cheap and well organized. =)

Although on one of the rushest streets of the city, the Mercure Metropol was reasonably quiet with our room facing the inner court (can't say if that applies for the rooms facing the street). The location was good, the staff friendly, cleanliness very good as well. The room facilities were on the level. If there is a problem, then it would be the size of the room, which in my opinion can't even be helped much since all normal rooms looked the same size. Even so for the prize payed it was very good.
