“Good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2012

Stayed in Hotel Mediterran in February 2012. We arrived after 10pm and the first room we were allocated had not been cleaned. We returned to reception to advise the young man on duty who came to inspect our room and promptly moved us to another. The rooms are basic but comfortable. We were there during the big freeze (-15 degrees during day) and were able to adjust the heating system in room so we were never cold at night. Staff are lovely. I forgot to bring a european plug with us and the man on reception was able to get me one from the hotel which he said I could keep until we checked out. The hotel is outside the city centre but the bus stop is only couple of minutes from hotel and buses travel every 10 mins or so. The reception staff were brilliant for information on bus times and general tourist info. Didn't eat at hotel so cannot comment on food but the restaurant/bar on the corner was lovely. We got engaged in that bar during our stay so both hotel and bar will always have good memories. If you want a hotel at a reasonable price with good local transport nearby, I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Stayed here 3 nights recently.

We had a good deal through our airline, so I'm not complaining about the price. Breakfast was not included and we didn't use at the hotel it either.

Staff at reception was generally very friendly and helpful. I felt a bit sorry for them actually as they had to deal with a very noise, rowdy bunch of Mancunians.

Our room was on the 5th floor and was very basic and could do with renovating. Nothing like the pictures on the hotel website. Slept with the window open and wasn't bothered by any street noise as such.
What I did find strange was that the elevator only goes up to the 4th floor. If you're higher up then you'll have to carry your luggage up the stairs.

We didn't mind the location being a bit out of the way. The bus stop is just around the corner, buses run every 8-10 minutes or so and it's only a 5 minute ride to Pest, so I don't understand why others reviewers have complained about this.

The only reason why I wouldn't recommend this hotel are the mattresses. I don't mind them hard, I don't mind them softer, but these were just bumpy and lumpy. The duvets are way too short and the pillows virtually flat. For sure the 3 most uncomfortable nights sleep (if you can call it sleep) I've ever had in any hotel.

Didn't use the jacuzzi/sauna so can't comment on that.

One late afternoon upon returning to the hotel the room to our door was wide open. The cleaning lady was working in another room down the corridor and when asked she told us our room was ready. It appeared not everything had been cleaned yet though, and I certainly wasn't happy that strangers could have easily walked off with my belongings.

Be aware that - although it is stated on the door that they accept American Express - my card wasn't accepted. I'd been using it without any problems before (and after), and whenever this happens I feel it's because the hotel prefers another payment option as they pay a higher commission fee to AmEx. If that's the case they shouldn't state they accept it as such.

The staff was excellent , friendly and helpful. The location is not near the city center and the bus is near but not convenient. The room was dirty and the carpet had stains. A light bulb was missing from over the bed and the blow dryer did not work and was not fixed when the front desk was notified. The bed was very uncomfortable. On a positive note the shower had good water pressure and was hot.

The front desk receptionists were all very friendly and helpful. But the rest of my experience at this hotel was not good. The bed was very uncomfortable. The drapes on the window don't close properly so the sun came streaming in when I wanted to sleep in the morning. The carpet in the room is filthy. One of the mattresses had blood stains on it that the sheet didn't cover. The location is very inconvenient if you want to wander around the Pest side of the city and then go back to your room for a brief rest. It's also not at all convenient to a variety of restaurants. I would never recommend this hotel to anybody.

Room Tip: Choose another hotel if you want a good room.

Very nice hotel. The receptionists were very friendly and helpful. The only drawback was the distance from the centre of Pest. The hotel is located on the Buda side of the Danube and was about a 30 minute walk from the centre. However there is a regular bus service from the corner of the street. There is also a good bar on the corner and a pub across the road. The pub was quiet and on the one occasion we were there there appeared to be a book reading meeting taking place. The location was a let down but not knowing the geography of the city beforehand we did not realise this until we got there.

The hotel was very clean, the staff were friendly and very helpful and offer was a good reasonably priced breakfast. Although the hotel is 1.5 miles from Budapest centre, the transport links are very good at a price of about 85p for a single journey. Would recommend to anyone on a short stay trip, we stayed for 5 days.Overall conveniently located, comfortable and a pleasurable stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a garden room.

I'm a regular visitor to Budapest and know the area around Hotel Mediterran very well so that was the main reason to choose this hotel initially but I will return because the staff were without question the friendliest in Budapest and the hotel was immaculately clean from my room, right the way through to the mini-spa in the basement.
Wi-fi would be a brilliant addition but if you aren't after 5 star style accomodation, and you want a conveniently located place to stay where you will be very comfortable, consider this hotel.
