“Close to Keleti”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2013

Me and my girlfriend choose this hotel because its close to Keleti railway station. We had a nice small double room with bathroom. Everything was perfectly clean. We stayed one night and we had a breakfast. Hotel stuff was nice and helpful.

My wife and I stayed at Baross City Hotel on a weekend trip to Budapest in January 2013. The room was perfectly fine. It was pretty much what you would expect from an average European hotel. Nothing spectacular, but it gets the job done. The price was good and the proximity to the train/metro/tram/bus stops was nice. The breakfast turned out to be a really nice surprise. They had fresh scrambled eggs, sausages, and nice deli meats to with the traditional continental breakfast. The staff seemed to be depressed, but I would say that about most locals we came in contact with while we were visiting.

whilst staying at this hotel we were charged a number of various ridiculous fines. We were on a student study tour and were charged in excess of 120,000 fourent an absolute travisity! the accomendation was a complete change from their misleading website and our room in particular stunk of heating gas which ofcourse is not what you would be expecting in a supposed 3 star hotel. for the first few days we recived no room services and on numerous occasions sufferd from rude encouters from the reception staff. i would not recomend this hole of a place and in fact would advise that you stay away from this embarassment of an establishment. the best western hotel is very close to here and would be a far better option than this place!

Room Tip: just do not stay here

5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 20, 2012

Paradoxically I chose this hotel, because I needed to go to Bratislava.
I had unexpectedly to go to Bratislava on business for a day, but, as I had already recently been there for a short break, and it would be a shame to spend the airfare just for a day, I decided to snatch a short break in Budapest instead and commute by train for one day to Bratislava.
So my main reason for choosing the Baross was its proximity to the Keleti railway station which is the mainline station for Bratislava, Vienna and, I think, Prague. The hotel is also very near to a metro station, so it is ideal for seeing the Budapest sights too.
The street entrance to the hotel was a little offputting especially as it seemed to be manned by a guy who looked more like a bodyguard or a bouncer than a greeter. However, once you get up to the reception, the staff are very friendly, and the hotel gets an open, airy feel from the inner courtyard. The room was very good: en suite with a mini bar and television good furnishing and very clean.
The breakfast was great for the price, and I have to say the room's mini bar was excellent value (not much more expensive than beer at the local shops). I think this is the only hotel I've ever stayed in where the mini bar hasn't been totally rip off and to be avoided.
I booked in advance online and I'm sure this is the best way, as the nightly room rates displayed in the room were quite a bit more than I was paying.
There are plenty of small eateries/ rotisseries around the hotel where you can eat reasonably and cheaply.
All in all this is a really good little hotel, well placed and well priced.

I read the reviews on here before I booked this hotel and went with the best ones. I was right to do so, I stayed 4 nights as a solo traveller at the beginning of December and was really happy with my choice. I needed a base for exploring the city but also somewhere I felt comfortable being on my own. This did both, the staff were friendly the rooms are looked after well if maybe a little dated in some areas but nothing to moan about. The location is fantastic for getting to all areas of the city via the metro I got a 72 hour travel card from the 'blue container' on the corner and it was very easy to work out. The entrance to this hotel can be a little off putting when first seen but go with it and you will be pleasantly surprised when you reach the reception. The hotel is kept really warm and though there is a building site outside currently where changes are happening with the metro it doesn't look great but it really didn't cause any issues during my stay. Breakfast is a reasonably simple continental but there was always plenty of it. Sleep quality was good but not excellent other guests were not a problem with noise but the walls are thin in this hotel. I would definitely recommend this hotel as a convenient hotel for exploring the city.

Stayed with a couple of friends for a night, and overall everything was good. The staff were nice and friendly, the rooms were clear, and they let us check out a hour later than we were supposed to, without any trouble.
Advice: ask for a room on the sixth floor, they are newer and better than the rest.

I stayed with a friend for three nights from 17 November 2012. Check in was smooth and rooms were reasonable. The area is under renovation as Budapest's 4th Metro line is under construction which does not gives nice look. Though hotel is just almost opposite train/Metro Station of Keleti but it is not that easy to locate hotel because of construction work going on. Once you enter the building approach/pathway is great and beautiful. Hotel reception is on 5th floor, rooms are recently refurbished with LCD TV. Though bathrooms are small but very clean and recently refurbished.

Location is ideal for taking Metro 2 red line. After 23:30 you can either take buses or walk down straight for 10 minutes towards Blaha Lujza Metro station where trams available 24 hours.

There are some good small restaurants in the adjacent streets i.e. Karim Grill (from hotel turn left and again turn left) which sells doner Kebabs for FR490 (£1.38) and some Pizza shops. There is also a bakery on the same street (from hotel turn left cross the street, after two buildings).

Free Wi-fi is available but signal is strong on 5th floor. There is also a computer terminal with internet at 5th floor which is free to use.
Breakfast was good but no fruits. Later we learned that Hungarians do not like fruits much.
