“Wonderful experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 24, 2013

Have seen previous reviews, I was a little wary. My concerns were unfounded! All the renovations to the building have been competed and the result is very impressive and efficient. The front desk staff did speak English and the manager was especially helpful. I booked ahead via e-mail (access from the Rudas Baths website) for various treatments which i found was the easiest way to do things. You need to be present 90 minutes ahead of the beginning of treatment time in order to pay and secure your spot. The procedures for getting a cabin to change in and store your clothes and where to go next are fairly clear and if in doubt, all you need do is ask one of the attendants. The treatments were great and the whole experience very pleasant indeed.

“clean and calm”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 23, 2013

it was great to go there, a bit hard to find the pool after therms, as you have to cross the hall, but it was an enjoyable atmosphere and little people on the Sunday morning

“Authentic Turkish bath”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 21, 2013

I have been to Rudas 2x now and it is my favourite Budapest bath so far. It operates as a men only bath on most days, however they have female days on Tuesdays and mixed days over the weekend (call/check online before you go). A word of warning: on a male day you will be given a small, rather revealing apron to wear, no swimsuits! This is due the traditional nature of this nearly 500 year old bath. If you are uncomfortable with nudity, you may prefer Szechenyi Baths (where every day is a mixed, swimsuit day).

“OK Activity for Men”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2013

Although Rudas is women-only on Tuesdays and open to both genders on weekends (requiring swim suits), this strikes me as a fairly optional male-only activity. I enjoyed it but I didn't even ask my traveling companions if they wanted to go. Americans remain uncomfortable with nudity (or near-nudity in this case with the strange front-only apron-like cloths that are provided for modesty), and I chose not to even bring it up. Even so, I found the experience pleasant as a solo activity. "When in Rome, do as the Romans" fairly accurately sumarizes my view of such things. I particularly enjoyed just sitting in the pool watching the interplay of sunbeams through the colored glass of the stone Ottoman-era dome. Meanwhile around me several dozen mostly middle-aged and older men sat chatting (all but two German-speaking gentlemen in totally alien-sounding Hungarian). The place was spotlessly clean, the waters pleasant, and the sauna and steam baths excellent. I didn't try the massage services because of the language barrier, although in retrospect I regret that decision. Bottom line: go if you have some free time in Budapest, but don't put it at the top of your list of things to do. I doubt many North American women would enjoy this but don't really pretend to know. Clearly, the weekends would be more like the family YMCA experience, but I wonder how authentic that would be.

“Go there at night!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

On every Friday and Saturday, this place is open from 10pm till 4am. Go there at night and put yourself in the baths, then have a relax or sleep on one of the beds there.
The place looks great, it has six baths with different temperatures, two saunas (dry and wet), massage hall, lockers, beds for relaxation, etc.
You might want to bring with you a big towel (you can get one there for 400 HUF), flipflops, and a robe (to help resting after bathing).
So bottom line, these baths are great.
It would be great if they had a bath with temperature between that of 42 degrees (too hot) and the next hottest bath of 36 degrees (not hot enough).
