“Great rooms”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2013

Superb rooms with excellent kighting and good free internet access, and great swimming pool and cosy little gym. B'fast good but not great. Excellent concierges to give you that vital local info. What you must do in B'pest is join the Free Walking Tours which are given by youngish people with lots of insights and personal stories about Budapest and Hungary. In particular go on the 'Communism' tour to hear about life under c'ism

We were delighted with our stay at the Le Meridien Budapest hotel . Spots of the lobby were elegant and classic. The room was also classic and elegant. We had a big bed, couch table and desk with chair. The first floor restaurant was absolutely gorgeous with it fabulous classy décor and the huge stained glass dome in the center. The food and service was excellent. The staff was very helpful and professional. We would love to stay here again.

Le Meridien seems to have it all -- deluxe elegance in lobby and dining room in a beautiful turn of the 20 century building; rooms that are updated but still elegant (ours was big enough for a comfortable couch, desk, and big windows that looked out on a park), bountiful breakfast buffet, small enough that you feel like you are treated like a personal guest, concierges that can plan outings and excursions for you, and VERY IMPORTANT,in a choice Buda location that makes almost anyplace you want to go within a 5-15 minute walk. And there is a metro stop right outside the door that will take you farther if need be....such as directly to the famous Szechny (sp? Baths.

The only small glitch was their wi-fi in our room. They tried everything, but it was erratic. So we mainly used it in the lobby (which has very comfortable couches and chairs)....so there was no problem.

Budapest is a beautiful city -- and our experience there was certainly enhanged by our stay at Le Meridien

Room Tip: Ask for an upper room overlooking oak

We stayed at Le Meridien for two nights before embarking on a Danube River cruise. It was one of the finest central city hotel stays that I can remember and I have been traveling for many years.
We were given a room on a lower floor, but at the back of the hotel overlooking Budapest's pedestrian mall which proved to be very quiet. The room was average in size by big city hotel standards, but was well designed and nicely furnished. There was a refrigerator in the room (watch out; there are sensors under the cans and bottles and if you move one it's registered as a purchase whether you consumed the contents or just moved it in order to shove in a can of coke).and lots of shelves and electrical outlets. The shower was excellent, the towels were thick and fluffy, and the bed was very comfortable.

We ate in the bar twice and the food was quite good (but simple; it was bar food). There was a full range of whiskeys, beer, and some very good wine. There was lobby music in the evenings a. We had breakfast one morning in the hotel restaurant and the food was quite good. Like most places in eastern Europe, the coffee was excellent.

The hotel staff was very helpful and friendly. English was widely spoken. The hotel is located in a very convenient part of Budapest and within half a block of a subway stop. There is a small, urban market across the street to the right of the hotel (some staff speak English) and there are quite a few restaurants within walking distance. The pedestrian mall offers local Hungarian shopping as well as a lot of the international chains.

Room Tip: As for a room on the pedestrian mall and check your bill for room bar charges.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2013

I stayed at the hotel for 4 nights (22 Oct - 25 Oct/2013). For the price I paid, I was very satisfied. The hotel personnel was very polite and helpful. My room was big with a King size bed. Hotel facilities + amenities nice as well. Excellent location, right at center of Budapest and above the metro station where all metro routes cross. I did not pay for the breakfast because I think no breakfast is worth 20-25Euro, besides plenty of coffee shops around, much cheaper. My room was above the main reception and I could hear a slight noise of the underground metro when it went by, but it did not bother me (I am sure if I had asked to be taken to a higher floor they would have done it). I traded couple of things (ie breakfast, metro slight/light noise) in order to stay at a nice hotel, at the center of Budapest. No complains. I would definitely stay there every time I visit Budapest provided that the price is right (I booked thru Booking.com and the hotel appeared with a deal star). Thanks

We spent 4 nights at LeMeridien in Budapest commencing October 17, 2013.

Our initial assignment was to a room overlooking the main entry, adjacent park and subway station. You can hear and feel the trains passing through. Got relocated to a higher floor on the opposite side of the building. Delightfully quiet.

The daily breakfast food selections are absolutely terrific and Peter, one of the breakfast attendants, is an excellent ambassador in attending to personal coffee and other liquid refreshment preferences...juices...water...etc.

Mate, a front desk representative, was also exceptional in addressing and resolving room and internet connection limitations which we experienced. He was a totally empathetic...calm...problem solver and a real asset to the property and made our overall experience with the property enjoyable.

Not a unique TripAdvisor comment, but the rooms are very tired and sorely in need of renovation. I understand that it has been something like 14 years since any room work of significance was done. It's hard to believe that Starwood tolerates the substandard conditions.

The current owner apparently feels that having a lobby that looks quite nice will overcome tired rooms and possibly the world's worst internet service, unless you pay for a wired, ethernet connection in the room. The connections in the public areas are very unstable and unpredictable in their performance.

At least for the moment, the owner has been able to attract and retain a very talented, eager to please each guest, staff which has grown accustomed to attempting to work around the severe limitations of the rooms and internet service.

Dear Reviewer,

Thank you for your honest feedback regarding your stay at Le Méridien Budapest. I am sorry that at first your room assignment was not up to your expectations and I am happy that we managed to provide you another room that fit your preferences and granted a quiet atmosphere.
I would like to express my appreciation for your positive words about our associates, and for mentioning two of them, Peter and Mate by name. Your compliments are highly motivating, and please rest assured that it will be shared with them.
I understand your accommodation and the Wi-Fi connection did not meet your expectations of a Starwood property and for that I apologize; the comments you shared are really valuable as we can strengthen our service through guest feedback.
Regarding the Wi-Fi system let me kindly inform you that we are in the process of upgrading the whole system, and we put a lot of effort in upgrading our product.
Once again thank you for your praising words about the staff of the Hotel and I hope that you will grant us another opportunity to welcome you at Le Méridien Budapest, to restore your confidence in us.

Best regards,
