“Best location, best services, best room, best hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 27, 2013

Here you will find a truly remarkable hotel. The location is fantastic - take a look on the pictures here, really amazing. The hotel was renovated, so rooms are new and fully working. Maybe the size is not very big, but this is the kind of hotel that you hardly would forget. Certainly one of the best Four Seasons everywhere.

Room Tip: There is no way to be there and don't ask for a "Danube River View" room or suite. Ma...

Five-star service begins at reservation time. Surprisingly, in certain geographies many 5-star hotels offer (and clients accept) blind bookings of mere room types (suite, junior, superior, double, etc), without regard for room's location, floor, view or layout. Hence, if you care for those features and want to make a dependable reservation, an efficient and dedicated Reservation office becomes essential. Based on my experience, the Four Season Gresham's Reservation Dept. is reliable and professional.

It makes me so proud to learn that your recent experience in our hotel was especially enhanced by the service extended to you by our Reservation team. We have been fortunate to amass a group of individuals who truly care about our guests and take great pride in their own performance. Our Reservation Team is no exception and we are most fortunate to have them as great Ambassadors of Four Seasons.

If you are looking for a top-level hotel in Budapest and want some charm and atmosphere, you must select the Four Season’s Gresham Palace. When compared to the other big-name hotels, most of which are in unattractive, modern towers from the 1970s, well, there really is no comparison whatsoever. The renovation is immaculate and fans of Belle Epoque decors will be immensely satisfied with the smallest details. Architecture aside, the hotel also offers everything that Four Seasons is famous for, with impeccable but friendly service everywhere. We dealt with staff in the restaurant, the bar, the spa, at the front desk and the concierge – everyone was very professional and helpful and went out of their way to ensure that all our needs were met. A very satisfying hotel experience.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the Chain Bridge / Danube - worth a little extra!

It is great to read your comments posted on Tripadvisor public website about your recent stay with us. I am glad that you liked the architecture and the décor of the Palace, as well as you were amazed by its charm and pleasant atmosphere.

I was also delighted to learn that beside design details you enjoyed so much your stay was mainly enhanced by the service extended to you by our Restaurant, Bar, Spa, Frond Desk and Concierge staff. I am always pleased when our employees meet and exceed our valued guests’ expectation. It is truly because of our wonderful employees that we enjoy the reputation that we have earned as a company, worldwide.

Sincerely,

The Four Seasons Hotel in Budapest is like a three star Michelin restaurant = worth travelling for. It is a stunning place, beautiful decorations, warm ambience, great service, friendly staff, good restaurants and bars and the views if you take a river room is absolutely amazing!!! We can highly recommend staying at the Four Seasons Hotel, it is located in the middle of all the sights and Budapest is a lovely city. The concierge is very professional and helps you out with all the stuff you want to see and do and - very importantly - the good restaurants you want to try.

Room Tip: Absolutely go for a river view room - stunning!

The unbeatable location and view of the river and the Castle, make of Gresham palace, the best hotel in Budapest.I was upgraded to a Danube river view room, which was spacious but not offering a really amazing view, due to a relatively small window.
The palace is a remake of previous old features: so keep this in perspective,in your expectations.
Good jacuzzi, but limited space in the pool area and choice of equipment at the gym.
The Four Seasons `atmosphere` is there and the restaurant at river level, offers an interesting Sunday brunch.
Is very overpriced for the average Hotel in the city, but also far better than the others nearby.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and your general impression of our Hotel in details. It was great to learn that you took great pleasure in the décor and architecture of the Palace, the result of a careful restoration of this beautiful building and enjoyed the Four Seasons atmosphere. Nevertheless your comments are mainly very positive, such as your very kind mentioning of our Sunday brunch, we do accept you slight criticism in relation to the size of our pool and the variety of our gym equipment also due to our limited space on the 5th floor. Unfortunately those were some of the challenges we encountered with renovations and restorations of a historical building. We were facing restrictions regarding any major modification of the original spaces.

Looking forward to the opportunity of welcoming you back in the near future.

Best regards,

3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2013

This was my first stay at a Four seasons-hotel, stayed there for one weekend with my partner. I give it an average review due to a few incidents that made the stay more irritating than amazing.
The rooms were nice enough: bathroom was stunning, the bedroom was nice but a bit small in my opinion (had a room in the 5th floor). The check-in went smoothly, the service overall was good, as you would expect when you pay the price they charge.

One point that really irritated me was the breakfast. It was rather ridiculous and uncomfortable for us, to say the least. We had ordered the "bed and breakfast" package: NOT WORTH IT!
When we came to the breakfast in the morning we were presented a menu. As we received no information about the breakfast we had already paid for, we had to wait for the waitress to return so that we could point out that we had the breakfast included, and asked her what we could choose from the menu. After waiting for her to check this up, she returned to tell us that we had the "american breakfast" included, which meant that we could take whatever we wanted from the buffet. And let me point out, it was almost no food left when we arrived, and I ended up taking the last slice of ham and the last bit of tomato, and then waited in vain for them to refill this disappointing “buffet”.
We could also order some hot food, since they “preferred to make this on order, and serve it freshly", with no menu for this warm food, I just ordered some scrambled eggs. This took them 20 minutes to prepare, which is what I would expect to wait for a dinner at a good restaurant, for breakfast, this is not good enough. Never the less, we were then given an invoice to sign, and surprisingly they expected a tip for breakfast! This was quite annoying, as most of it was self-service. They did not pay attention to refill the buffet-table, and then leave you with an invoice with the option to leave a tip. Given how expensive this hotel is, they should be able to adequately reward their staff. And not expect the guests to pay for every smile they receive.

Then the next irritating experience: after returning from the breakfast the last day, both the key-cards to our room had already been deactivated (1h before check-out). As we didn't have any IDs with us, we found this experience quite irritating and a bother.

Another thing I would like to point out is that they charge you for everything, what I expect from a high-end hotel are that they give you this little extra in addition to what you get at the more standard hotels. Here we received no complementary water, and I had yet to be at a hotel where they charge you extras for the wifi, when you already pay a lot for the room. The need for wifi in the daily use is a given nowadays, so when they then charge you for the wifi-connection, it feels more like travelling with cheap airlines like Ryanair or Fly Niki, than a 5-star hotel.
The overall conclusion for the stay: nothing more than average. I had high expectations due to the reputation on Four Seasons, and also all the good reviews for this hotel in tripadvisor (many which really are exaggerated).

I wanted a carefree stay, but experienced a series of uncomfortable situations at this hotel. I’m sure it’s possible to find other hotels in Budapest that will give you better value for the money.

We would like to thank you personally for taking the time to share your experience and your impression of our Gresham Restaurant especially in relation to the quality of our breakfast buffet and your overall breakfast experience on the Tripadvisor public website. We understand your time is valuable and it means a lot to us when our guests provide us with feedback.

Our goal is to ensure that each one of our guests leaves our outlets and the hotel with a feeling of satisfaction; obviously we failed to meet your expectations and for that I do apologize. You may rest assured that your comments are well noted and will be for sure carefully examined and for sure we are going to be reinforcing the replenishment procedure of our buffet items.

Indeed I am dismayed that we did not live up to your expectations of a Four Seasons Hotel. I trust that there will be another opportunity for us to welcome you back to Budapest to and provide you a perfect breakfast service that unfortunately we missed to offer you during your recent stay with us.

I have taken good note of all your remarks and please be assured that your comments will be carefully considered. We have put a lot of effort, resources and care into developing an efficient product. Nevertheless, we accept that we always have room to improve and that we can benefit from the constructive feedback of our guests.

We hope should your travels bring you back to Budapest that you would still consider Four Seasons Budapest your hotel of choice. Feel free to reach me directly at your convenience if you wish to discuss these issues further at: yves.giacometti@fourseasons.com.

Sincerely,

Yves Giacometti

This is expensive but really, really good. Building is magnificent. The view across the chain bridge to the citadel is superb. We stayed in a tremendous room. Lots of attention to detail. The staff are charming, service is very personalised. As you would expect the concierge is more than helpful. It has been described as the best hotel in Central Europe and it quite possibly is.
