“A Must See”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2013

The synagogue is amazing and it's place in history will grab you. I came away stunned at man's ability to harm his fellow man. We should never forget what happened here between March of 1944 and January 1945. It brought tears to my eyes.

“Respect for the past”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2013

A very emotional visit, and seeing the metal weeping willow with people's names on was a stark reminder of how many people were lost. It was good to see lots of young people there taking an interest

“Must visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2013

This place gives you goose bumps all over to imagine what these poor souls suffered. The weeping tree memorial actually sounds like its crying as the leaves each containing the names of the victims clank together in the wind. Very, very disturbing yet undeniabley a have to do if visiting Budapest.

“Interesting memorial”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2013 via mobile

They synagogue was beautiful but the tour guide was not a necessary expense. There are two exhibits on the grounds as well as the tree sculpture.

“Dont miss the history associated with it”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2013

You can do 2 things at the synagogue. See it and admire the beauty, or do the synagogue tour which happens at specific times, learn about the history of the place, and the role it played during WW 2. I would highly recommend the latter. Learn about the interiors of the synagogue in the tour first : why are there so many lights, why is the colour scheme relevant etc. Then step out and learn about the people who died in the region, see the pictures from the WW2 era in the corridor, see the cemetery, the tree of life, and finally the museum. The tour happens in multiple languages like English, French, German and takes about an hour.
