“What a Rip Off”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 12, 2013

We visited the Central Synagogue on the same day we went to St Stephen's. It cost 200 HUF or about 60p to get into St Stephen's with all its beauty but it was 2500 HUF or about £7.50 each to get into the Synagogue (500 HUF to take in a camera). It was nothing very exciting and was not particularly interesting inside. The only plus was the different staff who gave short talks about the Synagogue so you got more information about the history. There is a small garden and museum at the back of the grounds but they are not that interesting. It is not value for money and I would avoid this unless you have a special reason to visit.

a must visit! very special Synagogue which doesn't look like one .It has a terrible background because the Nazis used it as their headquarters during the war .

“Beautiful and important”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

I would absolutely recommend that you go to the Memorial Center. You buy your ticket outside and then you get to go inside the synagogue, the memorial garden and the museum. When combined with a visit to the Terror Haza, you get a good picture of what life in Hungary has been like for the people there. The synagogue is absolutely stunning.

Even if you are not religious I would recommend visiting this synagogue. The architecture is stunning and the museum poignant, particularly the room displaying photographs, accounts and objects from the Holocaust.Very moving.

As soon as I entered this shul I'd never such a beautiful interior and this synagogue is perfect for Shabbat.
