“Visit to the Opera House”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2012

The beautiful archtecture, the atmosphere, the standard of performance. Don't expect a wide choice of interval snacks, if any.

“Must see”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2012

Take the tour inside. the small concert is somewhat disappointing since it is in one of the corridors and not in the opera stage.

“Architectural gem, with possibility.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2012

If you are lucky with the cast, you can have a memorable experience. Beautiful gilt and red velvet interior reflecting a bygone age, but the comfort of even the best seats leaves something to be desired.

“Wow, Wow, Wow!!! And more Wow!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2012

I saw the Hyundai László Opera but before that had even started I was in awe of the building itself. It is opulence personified! The frescos, the gold and the marble (especially the stairs) make the inside a feast for your eyes!! Don't be put of by this though, it may be fit for a princess but it is not in the least bit stuffy. The audience on the whole wore smart/casual attire and some people were wearing jeans. I purchased the most expensive seats and it still was only around £40 each. Once inside I realised I'd almost pay £40 just to see the building! I would definitely recommend seeing an Opera here though rather than just going on a tour of the building it was fantastic! Despite the age of the building the stage area was fully modernised and equipped with moving platforms etc. The costumes, the music, the acting and even a bit of ballet was all fantastic! So go on immerse yourself in Hungarian culture and book tickets!! (I purchased mine online before going to Budapest.)

“Carmen at the Hungarian State Opera House”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2012

We went to see Carmen last Friday - it was an amazing performance and a great way to see the Opera House. We arrived early and so could look around and take photos before the performance. The seats are amazing value for such high quality music. Do dress up - you won't feel out of place in smart clothes! A definite must for all music lovers.
