Of course this is a must on a visit to Budapest. The colorful, restored buildings are beautiful, the cobblestone streets amazing, Matthias Church breathtaking. But the tour groups jockeying for position can make it a little overwhelming in the daytime, and it is filled with tourist trap shops and museums instead of the more authentic offerings you can find by roaming the Pest side of the city. If you're not with a tour group, try visiting early in the morning before the crowd descends, or else close to sunset for a spectacular view of the Parliament building. Nighttime also is a good time. The church and the Fishermen's Bastion are well-lit, and you can still get outstanding views.
