“Excellent Location of this modern hotel...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2013

We stayed at this hotel for four nights from 23rd June 2013. From the airport we took Bus 200E to the Metro Station at Kobanya Kispest on the M3 line. The metro quickly took us to Kalvin Ter station and on climbing the exit staircase the Mercure was facing us. This was the easiest of hotels to locate. Check in was swift and our room on the 3rd floor was clean and comfortable and had just enough space for two but was not very spacious. The bathroom was very small with a shower over the bathtub and a glass shower screen which had to be hinged out of the way to get in and out of the bath or shower. The usual toiletries were refreshed daily. Beds were firm and not too comfortable, but we did get used to them. Extra pillows were supplied on request. Our room was facing the side street and we enjoyed quiet nights. The in-room safe was so small that it could not take even a small laptop computer and was only used for safekeeping of passports and small electrical items and cameras. Free in-room Wi-Fi was haphazard and passwords changed several times during our stay. Breakfast was quite good, with a fair choice. There was no 'egg-station' but each day there were scrambled eggs and Hungarian omelette on offer. Tea and coffee were served by the staff and the service was good. We also tried the restaurant for dinner. Service, quality and price were all good and we can recommend you try the dinner cuisine. The hotel is clean and modern and superbly located for tourists. We bought 72 hour transport passes which were well used. Trams stop regularly only a few metres from the hotel for access to Deak Ferenc Ter where you can change for the metro and buses to all the sights. Bus 26 from this same square takes you across the river to Buda for the tourist sights. The Museum is just around the corner and the Danube is a few minutes walk away. There were plenty of restaurants and cheaper food outlets within minutes from the hotel. Although not the cheapest of hotels on offer the location made it worthwhile for our short stay.

Room Tip: Ask for room facing the side street for a quiet night.....

Dear GordonToulson,
Thank you for such a lovely review - we are very happy that you enjoyed your stay in Mercure Korona. It is very impotant for us to know how guests feel in our hotel. As you mentioned, the hotel has a good location, because there are many kind of public transport / bus, tram, metro/. It was also good to read that you were satisfied with the room, the breakfast and the service we provide. Thank you again for your remarks, we hope you choose our hotel during your next stay in Budapest.
With best regards,

The rooms where too small for the price charged. Breakfast was good, but not excellent; too little choice and too little fresh fruits.

Long waiting times with elevators

One of curtains was missing the piece fro darkening the room (irritating in summertime when first sunlight comes in at 04.30 am)

Conveniently located right next to the metro station, the hotel offers standard quality of accommodation and service. The room was quite small but clean. The only thing we missed in the room was any kind of ventilator in the bathroom. Breakfast was fine with sufficient variety of items. Maybe the reception staff could have been a little more helpful. To sum up - good price-quality ratio.

This hotel is really good located near the Danube, metro station and trams. Rooms are nice, clean and comfortable. We were sleeping at the side of a busy street, but we never were troubled.
Walking to the quiet streets, walking the main road to the bridge to Buda, or visiting the market is all at short distance. Even the National Museum is nearby and realy worth a visit.

Dear hansbennik,
We are happy that you enjoyed the center location of our hotel and you could benefit from it. Cafés, restaurant, casinos and many entertainment possibilities and of course the main attractions are in an easy reach on foot from the hotel. We are looking forward to welcoming you back to Budapest.

In summary: the room was fine, the front desk personel friendly, the Internet very spotty and often disconnects and irregular service, the breakfast miminal and very monotonous after two days, no exercise room or treadmill. In all - hardly four star.

If you are looking for character or charm, this probably isn't for you, but I'm here for a conference and it is perfect. With a view of the courtyard, my room is quiet, has a good workspace and comfy bed. Also right across from metro station.

Room Tip: The smoking floor is 8 so if you are sensitive don't go with 7 or 9 either.

We arrived at 10am after a horrible overnight flight. The staff found us a cleaned room after 30 minutes and even upgraded our breakfast because we had to wait. If you are willing to use the underground, there is a stop right outside the hotel entrance. If not, it is a longish walk to the city center and it was 100 the week we were there. The staff was willing to help with directions, even looking up destinations on the Internet when they were unsure. We would use this hotel again if we return to Budapest.
