“Brilliant value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 6, 2013

A truly pleasant stay at a lovely hotel in a superb downtown location. The views of The Chain Bridge are spectacular especially after sunset. The hotel is plush (though the decor is slightly dated), has extremely pleasant receptionists and concierges and the rooms were very clean throughout. The choice of English channels on TV was surprisingly good too. They promptly arranged for my return minibus trip reservation to the airport and made sure luggage was packed suitably.

Room Tip: Pay a few Euros extra and ask for the Danube river-facing rooms.

We just arrived today and were instantly happy with the vibe. The hotel and bar are very cool, staff attentive, and atmosphere is relaxed and hip. The room can face the Chain bridge and Danube which is very cool. The pricing is a little high, but you get what you pay for. It has a great restaurant called Paris too, so do it have to travel fal. Also a quaint square for dining and shopping is near by.

I stayed for 3 nights and while I didn't have a Danube view room, I did get the hotel for a very good price. On the first night I had a noise coming from the aircon and didn't sleep well. The next day when I complained, the hotel Guest Relations Manager, Emoke met me and apologized. She came up and heard the issue and had an engineer there almost immediately to fix the problem. When I returned to my room that night there was a complimentary fruit platter waiting, and a note of apology. I also had a follow up call that evening and again the next morning to see how I slept. As always the Sofitel Hermes toiletries were great! I was very impressed with the service I received and would highly recommend the hotel. I'm staying the next 3 nights at the InterContinental next door so will be reviewing that shortly.

Room Tip: Danube view if possible

I went for a Conference in May.
The location is simply perfect; walking distance from many city highlights, river view, Bridge view, etc.
Breakfast was very good and varied; drinks at the bar a bit pricey, but worth for a the location.
The staff was very polite, helpful and nice. The concierge staff gave their best to help me with internet connections, with restaurant reservations, and else.
I would recommend this hotel to everyone.

The Sofitel Chain Bridge is right on the Pest side of the Chain Bridge, and near the major shopping street in Budapest. We had a great room with a view of the river and bridge, service was excellent, and this hotel is convenient to most of what you want to see when you are in town.

My husband and I stayed at the Sofitel Chain Bridge in Budapest for Easter in 2013. After reading many trip advisor reviews, we were deciding between the Sofitel or the Intercontinental, both with views of the Chain Bridge. We felt the reviews for Sofitel were slightly better so went with that.

The location is perfect for crossing over into Buda- just walk right over the bridge and you're there. Up on Buda HIll we enjoyed Faust Wine Tasting at Faust Castle which is attached to the Hilton Buda (make reservations).

The view of Chain Bridge is quite good from inside the Sofitel restaurant/bar, but we found the Intercontinental bar was even better placed. You can always go for a drink at Intercontinental while staying at Sofitel.

The food at the Easter Brunch at the Sofitel was superb - really excellent and great service.

Also walking distance from the hotel is the retaurant, Hungarikum Bistro where we experienced really fantastic local cuisie. We also did saw a traditional hungarian dance festival as well as the dinner cruise on the Danube which we would also recommend.

The Big Red Bus tours stop right in front of the Softiel and was a great way to see the city, sights, even on rainy days. All of the main attractions are on the route (baths, famous churches and monuments, squares, and you get the history with audio recording). The pass is good for two days and also includes a small river cruise.

Room Tip: The bed was a bit small in our room. Also try and choose a room that faces Chain Bridge for better...

Sofitel is perfectly located near the main business and shopping areas. The hotel building dates from the 1970s or 1980s. The outside is quite ugly. The rooms and public areas are renovated, but cannot belie their communist past. Rooms are on the small side, bathrooms are very small. Beds are good. My room was reasonably quiet at night. I could sleep with the window open. Breakfast is very good and varied including many healthy options and excellent coffee. Service is very friendly and polite. Good business center. In sum, a good and efficient hotel for a business traveler, but lacks the charm of e.g. the Four Seasons.
