“Perfect location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2012

This is a large hotel with modern architecture both outside and inside. The location is perfect: Walking distance to the most interesting sights, like the Market hall and the Castle and Old town (there is a bus stop for "the Castle bus" just across the square in front of the hotel, if you don´t want to walk).

Beautiful view from the rooms facing the river - but why on earth is the cleaning staff instructed to close the curtains? This means you don´t see the view as you enter - with the curtains open you would be overwhelmed every time you entered your room.

Nice breakfast, but not as nice as the breakfast menu said.... Some items were missing. like the freshly squeezed orange juice that every five star hotel must have to earn five stars, in my opinion. And we had to change room two times before we got what we reserved. But very friendly staff.

Room Tip: The rooms facin the river are more expensive, but the view is really special. No need for high floor...

We had a fantastic suite with full 4 window views of the Danube, Chain Bridge, Citadel and the historical buildings along the Danube. We were also in the Executive Club and had wonderful helpful staff there: Chilla, Dorothy, Noami and Alexandra. Balint Huszar, the front office manager was extremely helping when we initially booked and after we left. We reported to him that we could not access the hotel wi-f1 from our room. This was not such an issue as we were able to use the computers in the executive club lounge. He has undertaken to look intothe matter..we intend to return.

The Sofitel Budapest is centrally located on the Danube River in the Pest region of Budapest. The central enclosed courtyard with balconies arranged looking down opens up a relaxing lobby where one can meet friends or just relax. Ask for a river-view room, and the view of the Danube, Castle Hill and the Chain Bridge will never fail to impress.

The hotel has an excellent breakfast buffet, and it is served well into the morning for tourists who are having a sleep in. The rooms were quiet, well appointed, and clean. The streets near the hotel are pedestrian only, or with wide pedestrian sidewalks, and take you to great shopping and dining nearby. The concierge services were always ready to help, including guiding us to a hard to find drug store which was open on a weekend. A perfect choice, and would choose it again.

I am just back from a 4 night stay in Budapest and this hotel is 1st class luxury. Overlooking the Danube and the Chain Bridge, it is in the most central location. The room was a good size for a standard twin room, everything was spacious and the bathroom was roomy. Daily cleaning was thorough, the bed linen and towels replaced daily etc. The only fault was that the TV channels all had to be paid for! However, there is so much to do in Budapest that TV took a backseat anyway.
The staff are efficient and extremely helpful. The breakfasts are superb! Breakfast overlooking the castle across the river and the chain bridge...amazing!
We were there Nov 1st. We weren't aware that this is a public holiday and many of the tourist sites were not open. We got as far as the Synagogue on Nov 1st but were disappointed to find it closed. We returned the next day and enjoyed a wonderful tour of this sacred building and visited the Jewish memorial garden adjacent to the synagogue. A must see.
There is no shortage of places to eat in this city. The best find was the SZAZEVES ETTEREM, the oldest restaurant in Pest. On a bitterly cold wet night this warm, welcoming restaurant thawed us out. There was live Hungarian gypsy music and a fine menu. The snugs and booths afforded patrons privacy and a place to sit and pass the night in comfort.
To come back to the Sofitel Hotel after a day exploring the city or a night out was a real treat. The bed has to be the most comfortable I have ever slept in.

Room Tip: Book a room with a river view. It is probably £25-35 extra per person for your stay but it is fab! A...

We loved this hotel! Traveled to Budapest in mid-October for five days with my husband and 2 adult children. We had 2 rooms on the club floor and they were clean, comfortable, and well appointed. The club floor is worth the extra few dollars as a Contintental plus breakfast is available in the club room with eggs any style upon request. Later in the day there is wine with all kinds of cheeses, salami, smoked salmon, breads crackers, etc, etc, along with sndwiches. You can make a meal of this. The views from our rooms and the club room were specatular! The Danube at night is breath taking. The concierge services are excellent. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. At 240 euros/night this was money well-spent. As others have stated the Sofitel is well within walking distance of many restaurants and main attractions. Thank you fellow Trip Advisor reviewers for steering me to the Sofitel. I would go back in a heart beat.

Room Tip: Get a room with a Danube view.
