“Very nice view from rooms near north west corner”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 8, 2011

We stayed at the hotel in April 2011 for two nights. Our room was a deluxe river view. The view from the room was nice. Room was small but clean. The hotel location is very good. A metro station is 5 minutes walk away, the tram stop is just in front of the hotel. Many tourist attractions are within walking distance.
Taxies waiting in front of the hotel is pretty expensive. I was charged 3000 HUF plus tip to the east train station - probably more than double of regular rate.
They still charge for internet connection. It is rare to find hotels to do so in Budapest.

Room Tip: Advance purchase rate is good.

I recently stayed at this property for a long weekend in May. I booked a "Prestige Suite" which advertised a separate living room, access to the club lounge as well as a large 520 sq ft room. Upon check in, we were surprised to find that the room was not as advertised- no separate living room and certainly not 520 sq feet. I reported this to the club level receptionist who insisted our room was a suite and was told "this is a suite in the Sofitel". I showed her the confirmation (with the room description) and she finally agreed that the room I was given was not the room I had booked (and prepaid). The hotel was fully booked and therefore, no change was possible for the first night. I was promised the correct room for the rest of the stay. As it turns out, housekeeping locked the door that connects to the "extra" living room. They did not, however, figure this out until late the following day. All of this wasn't a disaster, however I felt I should have been refunded the difference between the room I paid for and the standard room I had for the first night. They didn't see it that way at first, but after a few phone calls, they did come through and offer a generous credit at the Paris Budapest Restaurant in the hotel. It took some wrangling, but this compensation more than made up for the inconvenience.

I found the hotel itself to be a bit worn around the edges. The furniture in the room could use updating and the bed wasn't on par with most hotels of this class. All that said, the location of the hotel can't be beat- it is steps away from the Chain Bridge as well as multiple forms of public transportation. The views are as advertised and overall, the minor service issues were outweighed by the hotel's great location. I recommend with reservation...

Dear Valued Guest,

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your comments with us about your stay at Sofitel Budapest Chain Bridge.
Please accept our sincere appologies for the missunderstanding that occured on the first day of your stay.
The booking and the room assignment was made correctly in our system, as you received the Prestige suite upon arrival.
To our biggest regret we really have made a mistake by closing the door between the living room and the bedroom due to some previous technical challenges.
Please let me assure you that this is not a regular case and in fact was a mistake from our side.
However we are very happy that you accepted our dinner invitation for two persons in our gourmet restaurant and that you enjoyed this evening with us.
We are truly sorry for any inconveniences caused and we once more thank you for your kind understanding.
We appreciate your comments and do hope that you will give us the opportunity to serve you better during a next visit.

Best regards,

Laurent Betourne

What can i say about this wonderful hotel?
The lobby was awesome, the rooms very comfortable, service helpful, breakfast adequate, its situation magnificent. We preferred to stay in the deluxe rooms with chain bridge view. Its price was at 93 euros per night via yeego.com. Superb!!!

I just stayed at the Sofitel Budapest with my family, we were celebrating our son's graduation from high school and our daughter's graduation from university, just to give you an example of how great they are, when they knew we were celebrating, they sent us a complimentary bottle of champagne and 2 boxes of chocolates to the room, how about that for customer service? (Dorothy I know you had something to do with this and I am really thankful, I am sorry I never had the chance to say goodbye).
This is the best hotel in Budapest, it should be nr 1 in the trip advisor's list. The location couldn't be better, you can walk everywhere, we even walked to Margaret Island and the City Park.
From the moment you arrive the staff makes you feel special, they are all lovely. The hotel is beautiful, the rooms are great, the Danube river view is really astounding! Whoever says that the view is not important because you don't spend enough time in your room to care about that is because he hasn't seen this view, you should pay that little extra because is worth every penny, even if you are in your room only for an hour!
I recommend this hotel to everyone and I know for sure that next time I come back to Budapest I will stay here again. Thank you for a lovely stay!

I stayed at the hotel on my first visit to Budapest. The staff are very friendly. Had a difficulty during the first night but the staff, esp the Guest Relation Officer, Emoke Konert, were very helpful. Had a lovely stay and the restaurant is very good too.

Room Tip: Upgrade to luxury room for the view of Danube

I can't say enough EXCELLENT things about the Chain Bridge Sofitel!!! The hotel is a design winner inside. The rooms are just beautiful. The staff is excellent and friendly. The morning buffet is delicious and fresh and plentiful. The concierge were very helpful and gave us great tips on restaurants or things to see other than the main sites. Xania was extremely helpful when we arrived and walked us through our room amenities and hotel offerings. She was terrific and we cannot thank her enough for getting our arrival off to a great start!
The location is OUTSTANDING! We were right next to the Chain Bridge where we could walk over to the Buda side of Budapest ! We were close to St. Stephen's Basilica and other great points of interest:Vacca Uti for shopping and Central Market,Parliament, and great restaurants. It was a fabulous hotel in a great location with a superb staff and amenities!

Beautiful hotel with on of the best locations in Budapest overlooking the Danube and the Parliament. Close to just about everything including the post office which was hand to send excess luggage home. The staff were very helpful and friendly. A nice cocktail bar and restaurant. Would definitely return ...

Room Tip: Request room overlooking the Danube 7th 8th floor
