“Outstanding value with Danube view”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2010

I have stayed here twice now while visiting a nearby office. location is great and very easy to find when driving in over the Hitofi bridge. Rooms are pretty small, but modern and have what you need. Breakfast is OK and there is a taxi rank right outside for those concerned about being outside the centre. I had a nice view of the Danube from my room.

This Hotel was good, but poor when you think is a Mercure one. The room was old and very small, it needed to be renewed. It is located a litlle bit far from the metro Station, which is bad if you want to enjoy the night in Budapest. I recommend a hotel more central, near the "Chain Bridge".
However, the price was excellent, 57 euros per day, which is very budget when you think of a big Europe capital.

The Mercure Duna is an adequate tourist hotel, which can be accessed easily enough from the airport by metro and tram, and is within striking distance of all the main sights as the No 2 tram passes by on its way towards the Parliament buildings (or national theatre in the opposite direction) and the Nos 4 and 6 trams take you either to the heart of Buda or Pest. It is worth purchasing a travelcard (1, 3 or 7-day) from a BKV transport kiosk as soon as you are able because these offer excellent value and freedom to roam the city. The hotel rooms are fairly small with a corner cupboard offering hanging space, extra pillows and a TV; also private facilities with a bath and overhanging shower and sufficient towels and shampoos, soaps, gels and hair dryer. The rooms could do with better insulation as the sounds of neighbours are somewhat disturbing. As an English person, it is the breakfast that proved most disappointing, especially as it could be improved upon so easily. The fruit juices are extracted from a machine and taste artificial. Why doesn't the hotel use cartons of fruit juice, especially as they are available in the supermarket across the road? Whilst tea bags are available, it is not possible to simply add water and milk separately, only a ready-mixed syrupy concoction. Only fizzy mineral water that had the taste of alkaseltzer was available. The bacon was about 50 per cent fat. I have stayed in other Mercures, and plenty of Ibis and Novotels too; normally one can depend upon the breakfasts but here it was a let-down. I found the staff friendly and efficient, but in truth we were only using the hotel for bed and breakfast - Budapest has so many attractions it would be a waste not to explore them, especially as the city feels safe, even after dark. I particularly recommend a trip into the Buda Hills (cog-wheel railway/children's railway/observation tower/chair lift) and seeing the illuminations - don't be afraid to climb the Gellert Hill at night to see a view of the river with its bridges, or take the funicular up to the palace and fishermen's bastion, or an hour's evening cruise on the Danube (Duna). Prices are much the same as the UK but sometimes it is a problem obtaining change, either because they don't have coins to cover the odd numbers or because a HUF 10,000, or even worse a HUF 20,000 note, seems to be beyond the scope of the vast majority of outlets. That said, service was generally good and the people friendly and helpful with English widely spoken and used in signage. Budapest is a thriving city undergoing considerable renovation and rejuvenation, and I certainly intend to make another visit before long.

The service at this hotel was so bad, it was shocking! During my entire years of travel, I have never encountered such discourteous and lazy staff. During our 4 nights at this hotel, our beds were never properly made, or room cleaned. Moreover, the staff at the front desk were unhelpful, and even expressed annoyance that we were actually requesting assistance from them. This is a very badly managed hotel! Horrible! Not recommended!

This hotel is good for the price. The room and bathroom was very clean. The staff was polite and friendly, and they helped me with when I had questions. The hotel is facing the river but also a big road: My room was facing the yard = a quiet room. Was here at a conference in the city center. Although the hotel is abit outside the actual city center, it took 5 minutes to get there by bus. The bus tickets are very cheap. The breakfast was good, but too expensive.

hotel staff is not friendly :(
rooms are cramped, its seems designer didn't have an idea how to organize the space in a convenient way
location is ok, not exactly at the city center, but the tram stop is only few steps away, so you reach the center in 10 minutes
breakfasts are good

I ve stayed there for 3 nights at September of 2005 with my cousin. The room was nice and clean althought the maids didn't understand thw word "pillow" when i wanted an extra one!
At the reception the staff was little annoyed tha they had to speak to us in English(!!!) but besides that they were helpfull.
The thing is that in this hotel i ate the most amazing breakfast in all Europe. I ve travelled to too many countries and stayed at hotels of 4 and 5 stars but noone can beat Mercure Duna's breakfast.
Incredible omelete eggs and sausages, diferent kinds of bread and croissants and very nice coffee...
Every time i travel i compare the Mercure Duna's breakfast with each hotel and they never lose!!!
Worth to try it!
