“Nice hotel.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2012

A friend and I stay for 4 nights in early October. We were part of a group so this hotel was chosen for us. It is a little outside of the city center however it is very close to the trams and a metro station. We were able to walk to the Central Market and there were quite a few nice restaurants and bars on Raday Utca. The traffic pattern is a bit crazy in this part of the city but there is a nice system underground that helps you avoid the worst of it. There is also an ATM and a small grocery store across the street. The front desk was very nice, our breakfast was included as part of the group and it had lots of variety. It can get very busy later in the morning. The rooms are small but had everything we needed, the water pressure was good. We had requested a room with a river view but had one on the back of the hotel instead. We were so tired we didn't bother going back down to the front desk. After speaking with some of the people that had a river view I'm glad we didn't get one, they said it was noisy. It was VERY quiet and there weren't any bright lights in our room, we had the window open every night.

Generally speaking, the hotel is simple, but good. However it is not really in the centre of Budapest, as you can read on the hotel webpage. It is also not really far away, but you need to know that you will be not staying in the centre. You can reach the centre by tram, but reaching the stop also takes few minutes.
But besides that, hotel is ok, it is clean and the service is quite good.

My wife and I spent two nights in this hotel as part of a Cosmos tour group in early October.
We found the room to be a typical small european hotel room. The room was clean and it was on a non-smoking floor. When we checked in the weather was unusually warm for October. After we noticed the air conditioning seemed not to work, we inquired at the front desk and were told that the air conditioning had been turned off and we would need to leave the window open to cool the room. If you are on the front of the hotel, you face about 10 lanes of traffic on a busy highway. Not good at night when you want to sleep. See photo.
The hotel breakfast was fine. I am not sure about price since it was included. We found the TV in our room did not work and we reported this to the front desk. When I checked the TV the next day, it still had not been fixed. There is also wifi in the rooms and a computer in the lobby if you want to check e-mail. We also found the staff at the desk to be helpful in answering questions and giving advice. The hotel is not very close to major attractions but there is a tram stop in front of the hotel. However, to get to the tram stop, you need to cross a busy highway.
If you are part of a tour that uses this hotel, you will probably be OK. If you are traveling on your own, I would seriously look at other options.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the side away from the highway. Review weather forecasts and ask if the AC is w...

Budapest Duna is a hotel catering to the budget traveler and budget tour groups. The rooms are compact and relatively clean. Mattresses are standard, budget 'hotel grade'. The air conditioning struggled to keep up with the abnormally hot, August 2012 weather. It is reasonably close to the center of Budapest - it is a relatively short walk or a reasonable cab fare to the center of 'old Budapest'.

Room Tip: Rooms on the street side are very noisy. Request rooms on the backside of the hotel.

The hotel and room was clean and well maintained. I paid for a privilege rate room which was supposed to have a river view(which I did not), As I was only there one night I didnt mention it but if it had been a longer stay I may have been annoyed.

The room had a good wifi connection and staff were friendly enough.

Apart from the river view my other gripes were the breakfast which wasn`t that great and it was a very small area which meant I had to sit with strangers as there was no spaces. wasn`t able to pick up any decent cable TV and also the aircon although worked was locked on 15c which meant I was unable to get it as cool as I wanted.

So a decent hotel for a short stay, wouldn't advise staying there longer than a day or two. Location was good for my purpose but if you want the main town or a good sight seeing spot this hotel isnt the best.

Room Tip: don't pay for breakfast

Just spent two nights in this hotel with my wife & another couple as our base for a three day city break. Firstly the hotel is at the junction of 3 major roads in the centre of which is the main bus station and the terminus for the trains running into the city from the suburbs. Add to this with the fact that the trams pass immediately outside the hotel and this gives an almost deafening level of noise for all but maybe 2 or 3 hours in a day. ( this represented the extent of the sleep I got each day !! ).
Granted the hotel has double glazing, however this is old and does not close properly so it is ineffective for keeping out this noise.
The air-conditioning thermostat would not go down any further than 15 C which is hardly cool !
Taking these together we found ourselves trying to sleep with the windows open and failing because of the horrendous traffic noise or with them closed and failing to sleep because of the heat due to no air-conditioning.
The breakfast was poor, though advertised as "full" it consisted of the usual cheese and cold meat, bread, a bit of salad, dried up cold scrambled egg, chopped up hot dog sausages & cereals. ( the coffee was quite good but there was no understanding of tea at all.)
The walk into the city takes 30-40 minutes if you take the back streets. It is not possible to walk along the embankment from the hotel because of large roadworks which cut you off from any stroll along the Danube until you get to the Liberty Bridge near the centre.
The staff were reasonably friendly, the rooms were tired in terms of deco but clean, but I would not think it would deserve it's three star rating based on these two elements.
On the whole I would not recommend this hotel for anything longer than an overnight stop if you could not get in anywhere else.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back of the hotel. No view but less noise.
