“Lovely Hotel Experience in Budapest”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2013

My husband and I spent two nights here. Everything was lovely - the room, the amenities, toiletries. Received professional service from the concierge and front desk, and the doormen always greeted us. My only quibble is the lack of a coffee maker in the room (alas, apparently the norm in Eastern Europe). Its location is great for sightseeing. I tend to prefer smaller boutique hotels, but this was very good for a large hotel, and I'm glad we stayed here.

This is a magnificent hotel. We found it because our Viking River Cruise cancelled due to the flood and they put us here for one night and we picked up a second night. The only thing wrong with this hotel is that the double bed is two beds pushed together and each mattress is caved in the middle ... Not very romantic. This is why a 4 rather than 5. Other than that ... PERFECT. Fantastic breakfast buffet worth the price. Awesome Guest Services line. We ordered room service coffee one morning - the gentleman said it would be there in 2 minutes - AND IT WAS! Super lounges and public areas. And they don't charge for Wi-Fi anywhere in the hotel. Bravo! Thanks for a great stay. We will be back.

We stayed here for 4 nights and had a room overlooking the park.
The room was spacious and clean and the bed very comfortable.
The staff were efficient and polite and very helpful.
Breakfast is a buffet with a huge selection of fruits, pastries, yoghurts, breads, cold meats, cheeses and a hot selection of bacon/suasage/tomatoes etc. You can also order eggs from a menu. It seemed to be on the expensive side (28 euros per person per breakfast) but you cannot fault the selection available.
The location is spot on for exploring the city being right at the top of the popular shopping street Vaci utca and a short walk from the chain bridge.

Have recently spent 5 nights in this hotel on first visit to Budapest. Had a double room on the 5th floor away from the lift and facing away from the street. The room was very quiet and comfortable. Room service discreet and efficient.
Desk service efficient. Breakfast excellent. General atmosphere fine.
Horrible piped music in the lobby. Was much nicer when it was switched off! Lights a bit bright in the breakfast area combined with piped music!!
Swimming pool and spa very clean.
The hotel is in a great position for visiting the city. Plenty of sites are within walking distance and it is also close to excellent public transport links.
Cars pull up right outside the foyer door so watch out when leaving the hotel!
Perfectly acceptable place to stay, but not particularly memorable apart from the wonderful breakfast fare!

Just returned from a 3 night getaway with my husband. Amazing stay, couldn't fault the hotel in anyway. Arrived at the hotel to check in and our room was upgraded, had our own separate hallway, a separate living area, and a separate shower cubicle as well as a bath in the bathroom, bed and pillows very comfortable, even the option to choose which type of pillow you prefer! Trouser press in the room, powerful hairdryer provided and a full length mirror which seems daft but I only ever get useless hairdryers and no full length mirror at hotel stays! They even think of the little things like an umbrella and stationary! Loved the turn down service in the evening, bottled water and slippers provided! The hotels boasts friendly staff and a lovely atmosphere all round. Great location for being able to walk to a lot of attractions, a short stroll to the river and our room had a view of st stephens basilica. We drank in the blue fox bar and used the bistro in the hotel, the food was amazing and I would highly recommend eating here. Would highly recommend staying here and if I was to ever return to Budapest I would stay here again without a doubt.

Room Tip: Nice view of the park and st stephens basilica if you stay at the front side of the hotel

We were ignored by the doorman and concierge when we arrived - not a good first impression for a 5 star hotel. The check-in was impersonal and efficient - but not 5 star service. The hotel is 20 years old and the rooms are showing their age. They should be updated. Our deluxe junior suite had a leaky shower and the shower head was plugged with calcium buildup. The bed was comfortable but we had to get down on our hands and knees to use the safe. The safe was on the lowest shelf of an entertainment unit - below a shelf with wine for purchase. Selling wine appears to be more important than placing the safe in a location that is convenient for their guests.

The TV has 5 or 6 free English language news channels but no other free English language programming. There were lots of German language TV channels.

Do not buy "The Enjoy the Culinary highlights of Corvinus Cuisine, 3 course Hungarian degustation menu" an option available from their website. The food was mediocre and consisted of asparagus soup, a Hungarian goulash of gristly meat with noodles and apple strudel. When I asked the maitre'd why the goulash was so tasteless he said it was actually an Austrian stew. Very bad value for 45 EUR per person. Also, the meal was served in the EZ Bistro a very loud restaurant that is more like a cafeteria.

The location of the hotel is good. But within a block of the hotel my husband, who was out for a walk a at 6:00 pm while it was still daylight, was approached twice by young ladies who wanted him to buy them drinks. This is a well known scam to stick male tourists with huge bar bills.

We wouldn't stay here again and based our experience at the Corvinus we wouldn't stay at another Kempinski hotel.

We stayed two nights at the Budapest Kempinski and had a wonderful time. The staff was friendly and helpful. We had an early departure and the night before, the hotel staff arranged for us to have coffee delivered to our room extra early. We were given an upgrade; the room was very spacious and comfortable. On our last night we had dinner at NoBu which is inside the hotel, a nice final dinner before a long day of traveling.
