“Loved it!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2006

Just after returning from the Medosz and couldn't be happier!! The hotel is so central, just around the corner from the tram, in front of all the restaurants, and a night club and 24 hour bar beside us! You really couldn't be more central! The rooms were very clean and although the shower wasnt attached to the wall which is a regular thing in Europe we really couldn't fault the hotel at all. There was 7 of us in total, and some of the people that travelled with us were a bit fussy, they all commented on how central the hotel was. Beware, double beds are not the same as they are in Ireland, they are two single beds parell to the wall, not great if your planning a romantic break but did us just fine!!!!

We stayed in this hotel at the end of 2003 for 4 nights. We payed a promotional price 26 euros/night at that's about the highest price that we'd pay for it. The rooms are veery old and shabby - no renovation has been done. The bathroom smelled like urin and there were big holes in the curtains which were also very dusty. The towels and sheets weren't that clean either. In addition there was some strange noise coming from the wall (probably a pipe or something) which lasted all day and night long and pretty much prevented us from sleeping. The breakfast was ok as well as the location. We wouldn't recommend this hotel to anybody except if you get it with very cheap price.

We stayed in this hotel at the end of 2003 for 4 nights. We got the hotel with promotional price 26 euros/night which is about the highest price we would pay for it. The rooms were veeery old and untidy. The toilet smelled like urine and e.g. the curtains were really dusty and ragged. The towels seemed to be a bit dirty too. We didn't enjoy ourselves at all and this is about the worst hotel we've ever been at. The location was good and breakfast was ok but that's all the positive things we have to say about this hotel. During our stay there was a really weird noise coming from the wall all day and night long (which pretty much was stopping us from sleeping). Apparently there was some pipe or something behind the wall that was making the noise. We wouldn't recommend this hotel to anybody except if you get it with 20-30 euros/night 'cause that's all it's worth. :-(

The hotel is easy to reach by metro and tram. It is very convenient to get around. Moreover, nearby has many excellent restaurants. However the rooms facing the street are a bit too noisy at night.

We spent 6 nights at the Medosz at the end of Sept 2004. The hotel is effectively very well situated. One block to the subway, walkable distance to Nyugati Train Station and close to Andrassy Ut, which is a trendy street.
My complaint is about the cleanliness of the hotel: We occupied room 803 which was really dirty. My partner even took a pillow out of the pillowcase because it smelled only to find an extremely dirty pillow stained with everything including blood and the pillow itself was also falling apart. Mine was not any better... When he went to the reception with it, he was told that they hope they had newer pillow (!). Also, the 3 small carpets in the room had not been brushed for quite a while. We shooked them out the window and it was really dusty. The toilet had to be repaired 3 times and it was still leaking on the floor. The staff is rather nice. The breakfast has a lot a choices although a lot of the food seems to be leftovers from the evening before.
Also, if you are the type to open the window to sleep the situation of the hotel makes it extremely noisy at all hour since it is located on a square where cars go by and around that square at all hours.
I recommend paying a little more and get a cleaner place.

Don't let my 3-star rating stop you. I've been staying at the Medosz for over 10 years now and will again. The location is very good. The rooms are simple and adequate. The buffet breakfast is a good selling point. The staff helpful. The price is reasonable ($50 single, $65 double). the choiced of single rooms can be iffy. On a hot day the single rooms on the top floor, with a great view, are also greatly hot! Very uncomfortable, but that's only when it's a hot day! The double rooms are better situated. You can find better, but you'll have to pay more and/or give up location and/or the breakfast.
