“Clean and functional but not 4 Star”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2013

My husband and I spent a week at the Hotel Budapest in Budapest Hungary in April 2013. We chose it because it was within our budget and was an interesting looking building. It is a circular shape and is one of the tallest hotels in the city. We requested a high floor and was put in a room facing back towards the Danube and the wonderful city views on the 13th Floor.
This was not the Sheraton or the Marriott for sure and it was a good walk to town from our hotel on the buda side. We love walking so it wasnt a problem but if you want to be close to all the sights you can stay down town on the pest side or take the frequent metro bus and trains that are very regular. The room was functional with the usual ONE english speaking channel tv station BBC news room service stopped right on 10pm which was a bummer the night we arrived we were late getting in and had to survivie on a bag of crisps my husband got at a gas station down the street.
The insulation in the place is not good to say the least and we had to listen to a number of guests banging doors at all hours of the night and footfall in the corridors were noisy also.
I would say the staff were extremely polite and helpful food was edible but if you want a four star experience dont stay here its a tourist level hotel that attracts all the school tours from Italy Spain and the USA and the two lifts are like downtown New York Subway in the mornings and late evenings and being on the 13th Floor they were a nuisance and very rude children - our next visit to Hungary will be in about a month and I intend to stay in the pest side for convenience and ease of access to the mirade of beautiful buildings and streets in Budapest.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor facing back towards the River and the castle also consider booking breakfast wi...

Stayed in this hotel for 2 nights in March 2013. The cylindric hotel reminds me a similar building in LA. The hotel is well located and the view on the city from there is stunning. The room was clean and large enough. The food was quite good. The only bad side of this hotel is the elevators that are quite small and not fast enough. Only 2 elevators for an 18 story hotel is not enough. One good point is the free high-speed internet in the lobby.

The furniture is old, not very clean bathroom, everywhere signs of wear.Sorry but not a 4 stars hotel. There is no swimming pool. The elevators give you the impression that they are going only downward.Meals in the dining room are poor.

Hotel has interesting architecture, but maybe needs some renovation. We had rooms on upper floor and the views are really nice. If you can, choose rooms on upper floors.

Staff is very nice, breakfast is average. I have expected at least something from Hungaryan cuisine, but there was nothing. And coffee was quite weak.

We had as a group three rooms, all of them were clean, although overheated.

Location was great - it was a quiet place few minutes walking from metro station. There is a tram station right before the hotel and if you are coming at night from Keleti railway station, you can go to hotel by night bus.

1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2013

We stayed at the Hotel Budapest for a few days and it was not a great experience. The very first impression is the overpowering smell of stale cooking oil throughout the hotel (not so much in the bedrooms). I am not exaggerating, it was really off-putting. The staff were friendly but very slow. The bedrooms were rudimentary with a clean bathroom and a not-so-clean carpet and stained bed covers. The rooms were overheated, and we all slept badly because of it. The food was good: We had a salad in the cafe on the first evening and it was really delicious, and the service at the cafe bar was good; also the breakfast was good with wide selection of options and nice teas. I won't be staying there again though...

This monumental round building is interesting, but old furniture, too small rooms for any extra beds - we were 3 - and average service didn't really impress us, especially as it was not high season anymore, but room twice as expensive as in the same period in 4 star hotels in Prague. Fortunately we stayed there only one night, for longer period it'd be really uncomfortable. Extra bed was less comfortable than beach longer, so I ended sleeping on the floor. Staff in reception was not able to say where to leave our car as they didn't allow us to park on hotel parking! Breakfast was not bad, but it was impossible to find anybody to ask to bring cutlery and glasses for juice. Hotel definitely needs renovation - of rooms and employees! Location is quite OK, tram stop just in front of hotel, big shopping mall and metro station in walking distance.
