“nice meal”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2011

We went here one night while on holiday in Budapest after not managing to get into the restaurant along the road. It was late doors on the Friday night and they said that we could get a table. We both had starters and main courses, but unfortunately didn't have enough time to have a dessert. The waiter said that we could have one, but it would mean rushing it.
the meals were really nice though and filling, as both of us never managed to finish our main course.

“WORST MEAL IN BUDAPEST”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2011

Althought the service has not been bad, the quality of the food was awful, and it is difficult to cook basic meals so badly. This is What you can spect when they offer an apperitive specifying that it is for free... i am realtime sorry about this, but I love going out for dinner and this has been the worst dinner in ages.

“Good food, friendly service, wonderful atmosphere”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2011

We found this restaurant while wandering around the Castle district in the afternoon. There's a nice outdoor courtyard with tables, and a dining room downstairs in an old brick and stone cellar. Adam, the manager, told us that the cellar was only used in the winter, but took us down there to have a look. When we liked what we saw, he agreed to open the cellar for us that evening. When we came back in the evening, we had a lovely dinner.

The atmosphere at this restaurant is relaxed and casual. If you want fine dining, there are other restaurants in the Castle district that would be more appropriate. But if you're looking for a good meal with some typical Hungarian dishes, you'll be happy here.

We found the food to be very good, and the prices moderate. The service was excellent, in spite of being the only couple seated in the cellar (the other customers were seated in the courtyard, even the ones who asked to be seated downstairs also). In spite of having to split his time between upstairs and downstairs, Adam took the time to chat with us, and to ensure that we enjoyed our time at the restaurant.

A thoroughly enjoyable evening. Would we go back? Yes, without hesitation.

“Good cheer”

Went here with friends from the US and Germany for dining. It was a lucky choice: good food, good service and great atmosphere.

“Probably the worst meal ever!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2011

This restaurant was recommended in guidebooks and although it was in a tourist area and was likely to be a bit more expensive than other restaurants in Budapest we weren't really prepared for having to pay for what we received...

Firstly the waiter tried to sell us bottled water as 'tap water might make you ill' which was quite an interesting sales technique given that presumably the kitchen used tap water to wash up, cook the veg, etc.

The food was terrible - cheap ingredients , cooked terribly and rather eccentricly presented as well.

My starter was steak tartar is something that should always be close to the original recipe, but this version was swamped in paprika making the raw meat brown and giving it a very strange taste. It was served with toast - and two enormous slabs of cold lard!

My main was really bad, a duck breast that you could only tell was duck by tasting the fat on the side, any taste it might have had had been removed by cooking it for far far too long. It was accompanied by overcooked mushrooms laden in bad tasting fat, some rostis that appeared to be frozen hash browns and a small slick of cranberry jam. It was pretty dificult to get through and left me feeling slightly sick.

I'm really not a fussy eater and will forgive most things if the price reflects the ingredients and cooking skill, but the we'd eaten far better for much less for a few days in Budapest by the time we ate at Voros Ordog, we left after having to ask for a 10% service charge to be removed from the bill.
