Description: Located in the most peaceful part of District V in a small side street of Vaci Utca (Papnovelde utca 3.), BARBar Cafe & Chocolate is THE BEST chocolateria in this town! The owners, a young couple named Viki and Tomi, are very enthusiastic about the cafe and their aim is to make the guests utterly at home and relaxed in their cafe. The philosophy behind it is: using only high-quality ingredients for the preparation of coffees, lemonades and chocolates. For the chocolate drinks they buy real Belgian Callebaut chocolate (dark 70%, milk 47% or white 28% chocolate pastilles and not powder that is sued in most other Budapest cafes). The freshly made lemonade drinks (in ajam jar) are very refreshing on a sultry summer day. You can also have snacks, should you feel peckish: try the various spreads (aubergine spread, Italian pesto, spiced tomato cream). BARBar Cafe has laid-back atmosphere with warm colors and creative furnishing (refurbished Singer sewing machines serve as tables).

“Hot Chocolate Heaven”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2013

Forget Starbucks, the hot chocolate here is by far the best I have ever had! Their standard hot chocolate is amazing but we also recommend the white hot chocolate. They also offer a number of different twists of the original classic which we weren't adventurous enough to try but we did share a jug of their homemade lemonade! We could have spent the whole afternoon in this cafe however the rest of the city was waiting to be explored! Highly recommended!!

“Gem in the city”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 7, 2013

The hot chocolate bar is great. It was a real treat. I had the chilli hot chocolate and my partner had the banana hot chocolate. It cost around €7 but it was so worth it. The seating area upstairs in the best and has an area you can sit picnic style. As we visited in November it was great to have a hot chocolate and sit and rest after a day in the cold. The home made lemonade menu looks fantastic and I've heard great reviews. I'd love to go back in the summer to try some. The man at the counter spoke English and was very polite. The building is just passed a Church and down a side street, easily found with a map. It is a must do if you are visiting Budapest. When the place is quiet it very romantic. Thanks for the cayenne hot chocolate it was so hot but soooo good.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2013

As a born and raised Budapest(er):) and a great admirer of cafes I can say that BARBAR is one (if not the) of the best cafehouse of Budapest. The service is exceptional and so as the quality of the products and all that for reasonable pricing!!
