Description: Located in the most peaceful part of District V in a small side street of Vaci Utca (Papnovelde utca 3.), BARBar Cafe & Chocolate is THE BEST chocolateria in this town! The owners, a young couple named Viki and Tomi, are very enthusiastic about the cafe and their aim is to make the guests utterly at home and relaxed in their cafe. The philosophy behind it is: using only high-quality ingredients for the preparation of coffees, lemonades and chocolates. For the chocolate drinks they buy real Belgian Callebaut chocolate (dark 70%, milk 47% or white 28% chocolate pastilles and not powder that is sued in most other Budapest cafes). The freshly made lemonade drinks (in ajam jar) are very refreshing on a sultry summer day. You can also have snacks, should you feel peckish: try the various spreads (aubergine spread, Italian pesto, spiced tomato cream). BARBar Cafe has laid-back atmosphere with warm colors and creative furnishing (refurbished Singer sewing machines serve as tables).

“Eating heaven”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 20, 2012

We decided to go to BARbár after seeing numerous good reviews. It was not a let down. I had so much character and was an awesome place just to relax after a busy day of sightseeing. My partner had the milk hot chocolate with strawberries and I had the dark hot chocolate with raspberries. I have never had anything quite like it and as a chocoholic I can say I definitely had my chocolate fix. The dark chocolate was very bitter but of very good quality. It was basically like eating melted chocolate and I ate it with a spoon. Note the word ate not drunk!! This place was great and although a bit more than what ou would pay elsewhere for a hot chocolate nothing would be this good so it was totally worth it. Would recommend and go again.

A beautiful suprise hidden away. The perfect haven from the cold outside! As warm and nice as their hot chocolate! Really is a must on your visit to Budapest :)

“Amazing!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 17, 2012 via mobile

Definitely a must visit when in Budapest. The hot chocolate is amazing, particularly the white chocolate and strawberry and the dark chocolate and chilli. The place has a lovely relaxed feel about it, and the owner was very nice, making us feel very welcome. We went there on our first day in Budapest, and went back every day afterwards it was that good!

“Best Combination:Vintage Atmosphere and Chocolate”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 16, 2012

The place was nicely decorated and very cozy.It was quite romantic but also friendly . There were many flavors of hot chocolate to choose from. I had hot chocolate with pepper which I regret because it was too spicy, but the chocolate itself smelled amazing and had a real chocolate filling. The prices were a bit higher that other coffees in town but not too expensive. Overall it was a nice experience!

“Chocolate Heaven”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 9, 2012

A wide choice of hot chocolates, we went for milk chocolate & baileys and dark chocolate & cointreau, YUM!
The place looked dead from the outside but was busy upstairs. A bit pricey but well worth a visit!
