Well I walked right past this 'bookstore' on my first visit. Granted, I did not look up to see the very prominent "Alexandra" on the facade above the entrance. After all I was looking for a bookstore but the display at the front of the store features Hungarian wines they have for sale. Up the escalator and you are transported from sleek modernity to the elegance and romance that I at least imagine to be the world of the Hapsburgs (do I hear a waltz?). There is just no place anywhere better to sip your morning espresso/cappuccino/latte. There is a nice selection of pastries available, along with some luncheon items. But pastries are not listed on the menu. You will need to peruse the display at the counter to make your selection. The pastries may not be the best you'll find in the city (you might try 'Callas' right next to the Opera House), but they are certainly good enough to serve as your excuse to linger just a little longer in this so very opulent setting.
