“Great traditional vendeglo in central Pest”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2014

Great place in the central 5th district that offers all the Hungarian and Austro-Hungarian favourites. Our schnitzel, sausage soup and cucumber salad were all very good. Cute, quiet room; fast, friendly service, and reasonable prices. Good draught beer and wine. And as noted by others, frequented by Hungarians as well as foreigners. A rare find in this increasingly touristified part of town.

“I will come here again”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2013

I have visited the restaurant 3 times and I know that whenever I have a chance to stay in Budapest, I will come here again. The last time I was here with my boyfriend and we were quite in hurry. I asked the waiter for a possibility to get a faster service. And they were fast indeed! The food was delicious, I got my favorite Hortobagy pancake and my boyfriend roasted mutton. Soups we had before were also very good, just like how my grandma (originally Hungarian) used to make. We both were leaving the place very satisfied and had no problem to get to the train station on time. Simply, very good traditional Hungarian food for reasonable price, perfect service and good localization in the center.

“No visit to budapest without going to the Alföldi”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 14, 2013

it is relatively inexpensive and visited by locals as well as tourists. It offers a premium quality of traditional dishes. good service, no tourist trap. A traditional inn, centrally located. You will not be dissappointed.

“the place for authentic fish soup at local prices”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2013

This restuarant is not a cheap dive, but neither is it a tourist trap. There are no gypsy dancing or musicians to entertain you. Instead, you get good service from the waiters and delicious hungarian fish soup. We had the Szegedi style one, which comes with fish fillets & roe (the others may not have this). The serving of fish will cover a group of 4 and leave you room for a second course - which should be something light (that is more fish or a salad) . Have one of their delicious pogacsa (savoury breads) which are on the table (they are 200 ft a pc) had a lovely serbian carp (racsponty) for second course. Highly recommended.

“Nagyon finom volt!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2013

I believe since my very first visit to Budapest back in 1991, with my most recent visit in August 2011, I continue to enjoy dining at this small, charming and very traditional Hungarian restaurant: Alfőldi Kisvendéglő. This is very traditional Hungarian food and I have never been disappointed. Every table is decked out in typical Hungarian embroidered linens and the atmosphere is very homey. Prices have always been quite inexpensive, however Budapest has gone through some impressive changes and the once dark, quiet street where this restaurant is located, has been made into a nice pedestrian zone, illuminated now with lights and several new restaurants/cafés recently opened. There is even outdoor seating now during the warmer months. But prices have certainly gone up due to progress, but it is still far from breaking the bank. I am a big fan of their cold sour cherry soup (Meggyes) made with sour cream and a touch of cinnamon; the Hortobágy Palacsinta (Hortobagy pancakes...crêpes actually, which are filled with chicken meat and a sour cream paprika sauce); and the Gundel Palacsinta (filled with ground nuts and chocolate...mmm!),
The menus are translated but not everyone is real well versed in English; the older gentleman who may very well be the owner is definitely more comfortable speaking his native tongue, but luckily I speak some and do well there.
