Owner description: The Hospital in the Rock Nuclear Bunker Museum is a thrilling, unique and moving place. Visitors can learn about the WWII and the 1956 revolution as well as the Cold War in relation to this former TOP SECRET nuclear bunker. It had an important role during the war and it was classified until 2002 and opened as a museum in 2008. The place ensures a real time warp into the past. Mobiles are not working inside. Do not expect a regular museum. One hour long tour departs every hour in English. Guide books are available in several languages. Unforgettable experience underneath the Castle Hill. The entrance is only about 5 minutes walk from the famous Matthias-Church of Buda Castle.

Really enjoyable tour. Do not miss if you are going to Budapest. Expensive compared to other attractions but worth the money.

“Well worth a visit - friendly and helpful staff!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 29, 2013

The hospital in the rock was a really interesting place to visit and shows a different side to Budapest. The tour is provided in English and is very informative, showing the use of the hospital during the War and then its conversion later on to a secret nuclear bunker!

The staff were also very helpful, we arrived 20 mins after a scheduled tour and would not have had time to wait for the next one as we had a flight to catch! One member of staff took us personally down the tunnel, explaining different sections along the way until we caught up with the group on the tour. Great service and a great experience! Thanks guys!

“Overpriced and tour way too long”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 29, 2013

The hospital is a historical gem and the wax characters are an attempt to bring the hospital to life for the viewer, for this I rate it highly but unfortunately the ability of people to exploit an attraction in order to swindle tourists stricts again.
The tour is way overpriced, i mean extortion at 3600ft (12e +) for people over 26 and 1800 for under 26 but certain concessions apply to particular groups.
The tour guide I had was boring and not polite and she made the 90 minute tour feel like an eternity. The hospital would be a far better experience if people were allowed to walk around by themselves and read placards (if they were provided) because the historical notoriety of this attraction speaks for itself having aided victims during nazi occupation and communist rule and being hidden away to provide safety from the shelling, however having to be confined in a group with a guide with broken English took from the experience as did the inability to take pictures, should be allowed to take pictures if you pay to get into something.

“A different insight into Budapest”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 28, 2013 via mobile

The Hospital in the Rock is well worth a visit, particularly if you want to escape the cold for a few hours. As many other reviewers mentioned, the tour does feel a little rushed. Our group was quite big & i would have loved to have pottered over the memorabilia for a bit longer. Our guide was very knowledgeable & passionate about the role of the of the hospital during WWII and the Hungarian Uprising. Well worth a visit

“Well worth the time and vist”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 27, 2013 via mobile

Well worth the time and visit if a little pricey. Good interesting tour and excellent tour guide, takes about an hour for the tour and explains its use as a hospital German command centre and conversion to necular Bunker.
