“Away from the city buzz...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 6, 2012

I have been a regular to the Müpa, although from outside it is not really appealing, there is some real wonder going on in the inside. It is spacious, lots of light and fabolous programmes. I mainly attended programmes for kids, the Saturday morning ones which offer activities after words in the connected museum (Lumu) are a real treat! The aucustic of the big concert hall is the best you can have in Budapest. The staff is always nice and helpful. I would recommend this place to tourists (even with young children), even if you can not get/do not want to get a ticket for a performance, during summer you can just wonder around the park surrounding the building (maze, fountains, babylon tower with view on the Danube)

“Temple of high culture”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2012

A new building, a littel out of centre, that quickly became the best place for concerts in Budapest. The program is really excellent, any performance or presentation can be recommended. The National Concert Hall, whatever you think of the architecture (I am less than impressed) has excellent acoustics; apparently the smaller halls are also good (I have not been there yet). any visitor to Budapest does well to chek the program and go if they can.

“This is the best concert hall in the world.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2012

This is the best concert hall in the world. Well, I have not been to every concert hall in the world but it is definitely one of the best It is better than any concert hall in New York or Paris and is as good, if not better than, the Musikverein in Vienna. I found this concert hall so wonderful that I went to over 10 concerts while I was in Budapest. I know music and this is the best.

“magnificent building and acustics”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2012

the first of January is always the CREATION by Josef Hyden.
The choir and orchestra with soprano and two other singers were superb.
The lobby and hall are so beautiful..I bet every concert in this place would be absolutely wonderful.

“A lovely, modern cultural venue”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 21, 2011

This modern concert venue (not to be confused with the Palace of Art in Budapest!) is a great contrast to other older cultural venues in Budapest. It was built in 2005 and is located a little south of the city center next to the Danube. You may feel it's far away, but actually it is quite easy to reach. Tram 24 takes you right there (just get out at the last stop, a little before the actual 'end' point of the tram line under the highway).

Of course it's great to experience the atmosphere and history of the old opera house, Liszt Academy building etc. ... but it's also refreshing to view a concert in a modern building with the very latest acoustics. The architecture is verging on imposing, but still manages to feel light and open. Everything is easily accessible and the information desk were very helpful. There was also a nice bookstore near the café.

Another plus for the Palace of Arts is the website where you can book concert tickets. It is easy to navigate and clearly shows seating plans and stage views from various locations within the hall. (I struggled, however, to pay online ... but when I e-mailed the client service contact they were quick to respond and offered to leave tickets for me at the ticket counter for collection on the night of the concert).

Your concert ticket also allows you access to the Ludwig contemporary art gallery which is situated within the same building complex. We didn't have much time to explore inside, but it's a clean, open space covering a few floors. Despite it's size, it also felt light and fresh with large windows offering 'framed' views of the river and surrounds. As it is a contemporary gallery, the work is more alternate ... so, read up on what's showing beforehand if you're a fussy art connoisseur!
