Description: Pest-Buda is located on the ground floor of a baroque house in the medieval castle district. Until 1900, the building functioned as an inn, its ground floor housing a pub or a restaurant, and three bedrooms on each of the upper floors. The world changed, the inn became a residential building but the pub stayed, or more precisely, transformed into a restaurant.Around the sixties and the seventies, it was still considered a place of good fame. When it became vacant in 2010, our team took over the place and began developing the new concept of Pest-Buda.We decided that our bistro should feature a simple Hungarian home-cuisine-like approach and that we should show how this can be done in an outstanding, state-of-the-art way, with a short but seasonal menu. We are not trying to renew it or deconstruct it, venturing into molecular gastronomy, but instead by offering excellent stews, grilled sausages, french fries and flamed pies straight out of the oven.As simple as this sounds, this might be the greater of the two challanges. Bringing forward the best beef stew in the world is an enormous challange. It takes a long time to achieve this and we have much work ahead us, but we are already on the right track concerning grilled sausages and the oven-baked flamed pies.

“Good Food - Solid Service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 1, 2014

Walked over from the Hilton seeking a nice dinner for 1. Seated promptly, service was appropriately attentive, quiet and polite. Started with fulmint wine (from Tokaj, but dry) and fish soup. Fish was substantial and tasty, soup was hot and spicy, perfect for the cold night. I ordered grilled sausage and a beetroot salad for the main - the mustard and fresh paprika added yet more spice. Red cab / merlot cuvee wine (Hungarian) was a good match. Finished with nut pasrty and cream desert - 3 puton tokaj... all in all a fair meal. My only knock is the price was a little high by local standard, but the location in the Castle district is outstanding.

“Fabulous traditional Hungarian restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2014

This restaurant was very close to our hotel and was recommended to us by the hotel - and we were not disappointed. the food was fabulous and the waiter was really informative and helpfull. We had the goulash and it was first class!! We had a bottle of Bulls Blood red wine with the meal which really complemented the dish. the wine was not cheap but wow!! it was superb.
This restaurant is well woth a visit!!

“Nice Bistro”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 26, 2014

A quite nice restaurant in the old town of Buda.
We tried two of the Flamed Pies (Hungarian Pizza), which were tasty, filling and reasonably priced. We found the rest of the selections on the menu somewhat pricey, which is apparently due to the very touristy character of the area.
The staff are extremely polite and they all speak English.
Quite alright all in all.

“Pleasant little Bistro”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 18, 2014

Few minutes walk from the Bastion and St Matthias Church is this lovely little Hungarian bistro. Nice service and good food in an informal setting. Good pricing and worth a visit.
