Description: Pest-Buda is located on the ground floor of a baroque house in the medieval castle district. Until 1900, the building functioned as an inn, its ground floor housing a pub or a restaurant, and three bedrooms on each of the upper floors. The world changed, the inn became a residential building but the pub stayed, or more precisely, transformed into a restaurant.Around the sixties and the seventies, it was still considered a place of good fame. When it became vacant in 2010, our team took over the place and began developing the new concept of Pest-Buda.We decided that our bistro should feature a simple Hungarian home-cuisine-like approach and that we should show how this can be done in an outstanding, state-of-the-art way, with a short but seasonal menu. We are not trying to renew it or deconstruct it, venturing into molecular gastronomy, but instead by offering excellent stews, grilled sausages, french fries and flamed pies straight out of the oven.As simple as this sounds, this might be the greater of the two challanges. Bringing forward the best beef stew in the world is an enormous challange. It takes a long time to achieve this and we have much work ahead us, but we are already on the right track concerning grilled sausages and the oven-baked flamed pies.

“What a wonderful surprise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 12, 2013 via mobile

We ducked into this little place after many of the others we wanted to try were closed. We are so glad they were. My wife had the pike with mushrooms and dumplings, which was delicate and delicious. I had the Crépe Hortobágy, a crepe filled with minced chicken and served on a flavorful paprika cream sauce. The plating and presentation was exceptional. Much more than I would have expected. The service was excellent, not too fast, not too slow.

“Good food and good value lunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2013 via mobile

The area around the castle in Buda has a number of bars, cafes and restaurants - a lot of which looked like tourist traps. As a party of four we were looking for somewhere we could have a leisurely lunch with good food and the opportunity to relax. The Pest-Buda did the job. The menu is quite small but I'd rather have that than a dozen pages of possible choices. We had a range of main courses, desserts and drinks and all were good. The bill was about £80 for four - so good value.

“Wonderful lunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

This restaurant is a breath of fresh air! The staff were all warm, friendly and welcoming, dealing with special dietary requirements efficiently and without fuss. The food was fresh, delicious and enjoyed by the whole family. Some other Buda restaurants would do well to learn from places like this as we would certainly visit again next time we are in Budapest.

“Impeccable service, beautiful food. ”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013 via mobile

Walked by here with my partner and went in for a light lunch. What can i say? We were welcomed in with open arms in a very non-pushy way, recommended a beautiful wine and after we ordered food, it was ready within minutes. There was a slight problem with my trout salad, but after i informed the waiter he was so aplogetic and asked if i wanted anything else on the menu. I chose a light chicken dish which was beautifully cooked accompanied by fresh homemade bread. After we had some very VERY gorgeous puddings and asked for the bill, we saw that they hadnt charged me for the replacement meal at all! I said that they missed off my meal and they replied with how it was their fault and how it was a pleasure to have us eating at their establishment. Couldnt have asked for better service. Definitely recommend even if just for a drink!!!!

“Lovely Dinner”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2013 via mobile

Great staff, attentive and helpful. Food was really hide. Quite a small standard menu, but don't be put off by this as the specials board was very impressive with a great variety. All for a good price. 3 courses and a glass of wine each came to around 17k HUF/?70. Slightly difficult to find at first, but from the Pest side, it was a really nice walk across the bridge ans up through the Fisherman's Bastille. We walked across at around 7:30pm, so after the bus tours had finished meaning it was really nice and quiet and good for photo taking with great views there and back of the Bastille and of the river. Definitely recommend for a nice evening walk/dinner.
