“Lovely cafe tucked away in a bookstore.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 27, 2013 via mobile

My partner and I were directed here by another tourist couple and are glad that we made the effort to visit.

It is tucked away on the second floor at the back of a bookstore so not obvious to passing trade.

It is a huge, beautifully decorated hall with a pianist playing quietly.

I felt the prices were average and you could have paid less elsewhere, however you wouldn't have had the lovely artwork to look at.

It was very grand, however was on the loud side with chatter which detracted from its atmosphere slightly, making it feel like a very large canteen.

Cakes were lovely though and my tea came with a straw which was actually the teabag and was very fun to brew!

“A feast for the Eyes as well as the Tummy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2013

Alexandra Bookcafe is probably the most beautiful of all the coffee house confectionaries in Budapest. The artwork adorning the ceiling must be seen to be fully appreciated. I am afraid words just will not do it justice.

The cakes were delicious, and since we liked it so much we went back several times while in Budapest. The decoration is amazing, the piano playing while you enjoy your afternoon treat was very soft and nice and really adds to the whole experience.

The prices surprisingly cheap !! I would strongly recommend this place next time you are in Budapest!

Believe me the cakes are really good and I am not an amateur in this.

“Nice atmosphere ”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013 via mobile

The cafe is amazing, service very fast and polite. Hot chocolate is very tasty, defenitely recommend it! Cakes are so-so, too fat for my taste. Good prices. And live piano music couldn't be better. Highly recommend.

“Classy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 23, 2013

There are many great places to have coffee and cake in Budapest. It's one of the great coffee culture cities but the book cafe is incredible. Worth a cover charge on its own to see the glorious ceiling it's I credibly reasonably priced for the experience. Elderly but impeccably dressed pianist, good, no nonsense waiters, great cakes. Just wrong to not go and visit.
