“Excellent location, nice hotel...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 18, 2013

I'll start on a low and end on a high.

La Prima is marketed as a 4 star hotel, but I would say it is more fitting of a 3 star. I've stayed in many 4 star hotels of a much better standard.

I asked at reception if it would be possible to turn on the air conditioning as, at times, our room was stifilingly hot - even though we were there mid october. However I was told this would not be possible as it was too noisy and and would affect other guests. Not really what you want to hear.

The reception staff were a bit hit or miss - playing on their phones a lot, and making you aware you were interupting their time on facebook or whatever *deep, huffy breaths*. The overnight receptionist was nice enough though.

I felt the hotel was slightly over styled - turquoise and cream Fleur De Lis everywhere (carpets, walls, glass, furniture...) a bit over bearing in all honesty, but not completely offensive.
A bit style over substance I think.

Breakfast consist of a selection of breads, meats, cheese, yoghurts and cereals interspersed with some local delicacies - Hungarian Goulash, spicy sausage... Was good to try different things, however the choice remains the same each day.

The hotel is in a fantatic location, halfway along Vaci Utca and a 2 minute walk away from the Danube. It is in a great location to explore the city and easy to navigate to and from. My wife and I walked everywhere from this great base.

There are a fantastic array of restaurants just a stones throw from the front doors, and a number of great bars and boutique shops too.

Room Tip: Steer clear of taxi's, the drivers are crazy (or at least the one we used to go to the Opera was...

Perhaps I have been too harsh in my scoring, however I have stayed in many other 4 star hotels which are far and away better than La Prima, and that has to be the measure.

The best thing about the hotel is the location. On a side street with Vaci Uta on one side and a hop away from the Danube on the other, it is ideally placed for a bit of exploring. We walked everywhere during our 4 night stay.
The hotel is also very modern with a turquoise coloured fleur de lis design throughout the hotel, and large mirrors with integrated tvs which was pretty cool.
Prices we paid were really good so cant complain too much.

Breakfast is light yet slightly limited - a small selection of cereal, yogurts, breeads, meats and cheeses, with some hot food in Hungarian style - spicy sausages and scrambled egss with veg and spices. This suited us fine and my preference is continental breakfast, but if a large cooked breakfast is your thing then it might not be for you.

The bad points have to be lack of air conditioning. I happen to be cold all the time and even I couldn't bear the heat in the room. My partner asked at reception if the air con could be altered as ours did not seem to be working. He was told it was affected by the outside temperatue? We overhead someone else complaining about the air con and being told that it was too noisy to put on and other guests would complain. Windows only open a fraction so that didn't help much.

The other problem I had with the hotel was the reception staff were a bit sullen. There was one very friendly guy who was mainly on nights but otherwise, I felt I was an inconvenience.

Other points to note, may have been mentioned before:
Good wardrobe space.
No kettle, but chargable coffee machine.
Bar area at reception.
Transfers can be arrange by hotel from airport.

The hotel is nice enough materially and very clean, but it is perhaps style over substance.

Stayed here for 3 nights at end of December 2012. Location is great on the Pest side of the river, only five minutes from two bridges which take you across to the Buda side and also round the corner from the main shopping street.

Apart from taking a cab from the airport we walked everywhere. About 10-15 minutes to ruin pubs (a must visit), and 10-15 minutes to various museums.

Check in was quick and easy. Had a room on the fifth floor. Very large bed, spacious room with mini-bar and large bathroom with walk-in shower. Safe, complimentary toiletries and hair dryer are also provided in the room.

Room cleaned everyday. Spotlessly clean. Only slight negative was that the room was far too warm. I expect the heating may have been on too much so we had to open the bedroom window each night in December, but it was quiet as we had a courtyard view.

Breakfast served in basement. excellent choice of cereal, dried fruit, yoghurt, hams, cheeses, breads, pastries and a few hot items, e.g. boiled and scrambles eggs.

Would recommend the hotel to anyone travelling to Budapest.

A nice boutique hotel in the heart of the city of Budapest.
Nice rooms, good breakfast and very centraly located,
almost on the Vaci itself, next to many shopping places and restaurants.
I really liked it !

We stayed at La Prima Fashion hotel two times this year, the first time from 31.12 - 02.01 and the other time from 06.01 - 07.01. The first stay was fine. But our second stay spoilt all good impressions on this hotel. On 7th in the morning we paid for our stay and left for airport. Few hours later we received an email from Booking.com saying that the hotel additionally charged us a cancellation fee, as if we didn`t show up at the hotel. We were upset to receive this email just on the last day of our vacation. We contacted hotel immediately and provided them with 2 invoices for 2 stays asking to resolve the situation. Actually we contacted them several times but didn`t receive any email from them for 4 days, which is very frustrating. Though it normally takes few minutes for the reservation manager Borbala Soos to answer the emails as we can say from our previous experience emailing to Borbala (before they got us as visitors) this time Borbala completely ignores our emails with absolutely no feedback.

It’s difficult to imagine in what way Tripadvisor 2012 excellence award which can be found at the reception desk matches this hotel and their attitude to their guests.

LA PRIMA FASHION HOTEL are CHEATERS!

This hotel is a bright example of utter ignorance and screaming fraud. The way they treated us is absolutely outrageous and unacceptable! I wouldn`t recommend it to anyone. Anyway be very careful with them!

Dear Nadia Y,

Thank you very much for your review!
Please accept our apologies for this special incident. The reason of the mistake was that there was a modification of the guest name, but in our reservation system we have had 2 different reservations under two different names. We have escaped our observation that these two reservations has the same reference number. Since only the one room has arrived to our hotel, we have had to contact to booking.com to inform them that there was a no show guest. But after we have recieved your email , that we have double charged, we double checked the problem and corrected and refunded the amount immediately.
Hereafter we will pay attention more in these cases, and promise that it will not happen again.

Best regards,

1st of all, one can not get a better location for their stay in Budapest. The hotel is right in the heart of the busiest touristic area of the capital. It's a proper 4 stars, with no doubt.

What i liked:
- excellent location. Been here during winter and the main Xmas market was 5 min away!
- the girl from the reception allowed us to check-in @8AM, which was amazing as we had been driving for the whole night.
-modern furniture and the overall look of the room was fresh, very clean and modern. I was impressed by the facilities.
- the room was very warm
-most of the rooms have their view on the back side so the noise is not a problem
-breakfast had decent variety

What i did not like:
-no parking

I truly recommend it for business/travel/city break purposes.

Location is great. Loved the decor, especially the television set in the large mirror. The colour scheme was nice too. Our room was a little small but not too small. Rooms were serviced well. Breakfast included choice of cereals, fruit, meats (sausages, cured meats), breads, eggs and nuts, teas, coffees and juices. Staff were always helpful. Price was very reasonable. I would go back!

Room Tip: We were on the 1st floor. Railing was outside the window so perhaps a room on a higher level may ha...
