“A place for every season”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 16, 2013

Budapest is full with high class restaurants, fancy places with great food and wine. However the most important ingredient of a restaurant for me is its soul...
And this place meets my standards. In every aspect of the European taste and hospitality they provide an excellent service with the inevitable chic and great atmosphere!
No matter what kind of reason one visits Borkonyha, a casual dinner or a few glasses of wine with friends and family, I highly reccomend it to see and try by yourselves!

“"the" happening place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 14, 2013

A very popular restaurant. We were there on a Monday night and it was packed. Reservation is definitely a must. The atmosphere was friendly and energetic, the food was really good, and plenty of wine to choose from. A bit pricier than expected.

“Extraordinary cuisine. Make reservations.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 14, 2013

Borkonyha WineKitchen is a gourmet Mediterranean style restaurant in Budapest. The description says its authentic Hungarian, but it's more American or Mediterranean style. This is one of the best restaurants I have ever been to in the world...Excellent value! The fish dishes served are actually fresh, not previously frozen, which is hard to come by in the middle of Eastern Europe.

To start, I tried the following dishes:

Stew with vegetables, red peppers, sausage and bacon. This was absolutely phenomenal. It was the perfect blend of flavors and spices.

Green salad with walnuts. This was a nice and elegant salad.

Homemade noodles and green peas with mizuna sprouts. This was the only dish which was a bit bland. I would NOT recommend ordering it.

For dinner, I tried the following dishes:

Cod fish, hazelnut crusted with spring salad and yellow carrots. This was unique and tasteful.

Pike perch fish with bok choy. The fish was fresh and perfectly cooked.

Pearl barley with mushrooms, chervil, roasted peppers and tomato water. This was light and flavorful. Not too rich and relatively healthy with tons of flavor.

Angus beef filet with marinated cucumber and crispy ham with thyme sauce. I honestly don't really eat meat at all and I found this dish to be one of the best. The steak was cooked medium rare, a little more rare than medium. It was so tasty.

The dessert was the best part. The bitter chocolate with citrus is absolutely to die for. I ordered it to share but I was mad I did not order one all for myself because every single bit was as scrumptious as can be. The combination of sweet and citrus was heavenly.

Overall, I had an extraordinary experience at Borkonyha WineKitchen. I do want to let you know the place is basically all tourists because it is too expensive for the locals. Regardless, it is superb. The value is amazing. A family of 4 can eat a gourmet style high-end three course meal for under $150. This could easily be over $400 in the rest of Europe or the US. The place gets packed every night of the week so be sure to make reservations.

The best in Budapest ! This resort was by far the nicest I've been to and I've been to a few. The place is very well manicured and gorgeous. The service was great and everyone was very hospitable and nice. The food was great and there were lots of activities. The rooms were modern and updated and included all the amenities.
