“Marmite hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2014

I loved this place for many of the reasons some people would hate it. My guess is if you like any of the following; stop reading new and look for another hotel - The Daily Mail, Jeremy Clarkson, Ferrero Rocher, TOWIE. Sorry, very English references.

The good things are an atmospheric old building, stylish rooms, art, a great commom room and enthusiatic staff. Drawbacks include a reception on the 2nd floor, lots of stairs and no control over the heating heating or much in the way of air con (just fans in some rooms) - think twice about visiting in the August heat! The location is pretty good for everything central.

We stayed 1 night in Droga, a wonderfull high ceilinged room on the 1st floor with a big bathroom. There was no window to the outdoors but doors opened out onto a public balcony that faced the courtyard. The rest of the stay was in the less atmoshpheric Yusuke which opens onto the courtyard and has a kitchen which is handy plus room for a couple of extra people to sleep upstairs. But inexplicably - no chairs.

I would stay again very happily but its not for everyone.

My partner and I had a wonderful time here, and were very sad to have to leave. The location couldn't be better, right in the centre of Budapest but tucked away in a quiet side street. The staff are all very friendly and helpful, ladies at reception speak perfect English, check-in/check-out and everything inbetween was perfect, couldn't have asked for more.

We stayed in Ludo room, which we both loved. The bed was huge, very comfortable, pillows very soft, and the room was quiet so we slept soundly each night. I love the design of this room, the art and quirky touches all around you, the bathtub in the room, the high ceiling, etc. I felt at home.

The walk-in shower is excellent (you have the option of fixed "rainshower" overhead or hand-held shower) and the toiletries supplied were very nice and not the cheap stuff. Do be careful on the wet floor though! There is no TV in the room which was actually nice for once, free wi-fi is available of course, but a little technology detox was just what we needed so didn't use it much.

Another huge bonus were the communal areas of the hotel. After exploring the city all day, we loved coming back and chilling out in one of the rooms with a cup of tea from the free tea bar, flicking through an art book, listening to relaxing music for a while, before retiring to our room. You don't get this easygoing vibe in a big hotel.

We only had breakfast once in the hotel, and if there's one improvement we could make, it would be here. As Budapest is generally cheap with plenty of places to eat, an 8 Euros buffet should be a little more varied and generous, with at least some of the extras on the menu included in the price.

But overall, this is a fantastic guesthouse, never stayed anywhere like this before, and should we return to Budapest in the future, there's no doubt I will be checking availability here first!

Room Tip: All rooms are different here so it's a matter of personal preference. We loved the Ludo room.

The moment we arrived at Brody House we were greeted warmly, helped with our bags up the marble stairway, and inducted into life at Brody. Complimentary tea available 24/7 in the club rooms, beautiful art wherever you look, an honesty bar to help yourself to and a continental buffet breakfast that is as thoughtfully presented as it is carefully selected. The brie with rosemary on a wholegrain croissant was especially good!
We had booked the Ludo room, which if I'm honest wasn't exactly what I was expecting - I think perhaps the pictures I'd seen when booking were of a different room, with a separate bathroom rather than a free-standing bath next to the bed. Nevertheless it was awesome - a shower room made of reclaimed wood (but finished with marble), rainfall shower, high ceilings and a balcony outside our room which looked out over the internal courtyard. The room had great lighting, nice touches included a table made from an old Singer sewing machine, and was so peaceful and quiet. There are small things that could be improved - a radio or iPod dock would make a great addition to the room, the toiletries and towels weren't as good as you'd get in a chain, but the thoughtful, personal touches outweigh those small things. I'd definitely recommend Brody House to friends, and would return again myself for sure. It's just a shame it was such gorgeous weather when we stayed we didn't get to make more use of the House itself! Like others, we booked through Mr&Mrs Smith so had a bottle of Hungarian Prosecco waiting for us - which was very much appreciated!

We stayed at Brody House to celebrate my partner's 40th birthday. We had a wonderful time. The Brody House staff are warm, lovely, helpful and welcoming people. Brody House is beautifully designed and the experience of staying there is really thoughtfully conceived. We stayed in the Alex Tinie room. It's a stunning room and very tranquil with a very, very comfy bed. If you're looking for a romantic, beautifully designed, stylish, welcoming place to stay in central Pest then Brody House is for you. I'd happily return again and again and again.

My friend recommended this hotel and we found a great offer on Mr & Mrs Smith which included a bottle of Hungarian Prosecco on arrival, three course dinner at Brody Studios and tickets to the Szechenyi Baths.
On arrival, we were greeted by Zsofi who showed us to our room (Droga) and explained the hotel bits and pieces to us.
A great place for couples (who dont mind stairs) and it is definitely in a fantastic location. Thank you to Zsofi for a very warm welcome.

discovered this hotel after a recommendation from mr and mrs smith and it didn't disappoint.
boutique feel and walls decorated with contemporary art work. we had our own apartment (Yusuke) on the ground floor with a loft bedroom (not advisable if you don't like steep stairs) which was decorated in fine japanese art. the main rooms upstairs were equally decorated and peaceful. the staff were very helpful both prior to arriving with booking restaurants and when there, with recommendations and advise. close to museums, bars and restaurants. plenty of free hot drinks and a "honesty" bar to add the final touches.

Room Tip: hotel has no lift if disabled

We have just got back from an amazing few days at Brody house for our first anniversary. Stunning quirky décor, each room individually designed, we stayed in the Ludo room with a free standing bath, huge cosy bed and bright artwork.
The staff are very friendly and helpful giving great recommendations of where to explore and dine. Our package was with Mr and Mrs Smith and included lunch, local prosecco and a day at the thermal baths a must!
We will definitely be back to Budapest and Brody house, we will be recommending the hotel to our friends and family.
