“"Superb"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 15, 2013

My wife and I visited costas as part of a 4 day break to Budapest after booking a table online. We were warmly welcomed to a very modern establishment. We went for the Four course tasting menu with wine matching, we were allowed to chose which items we wanted from the main menu, so not really a tasting menu. The food was nothing short of perfect, with several amuse bouche and petit fours adding to the courses. In all I think we had 7. The service was superb, friendly and knowledgable. I was particularly impressed that the matched wines were nearly all Hungarian.

“Excellent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 12, 2013

Recently spent four days in Budapest and ate here on a Saturday night having booked a table months in advance. The decor is modern with an enthusiastic and very knowledgeable young staff. We both had a glass of Hungarian sparkling wine on arrival. We chose to have four courses with the wine flight. As well as several amuse bouches our courses included crayfish royale with Cserepes Chardonnay 2009, Tokaji Aszu marinated duck liver terrine with Furmint-Szepsy Tokaj 2011, poached John Dory with Juhfark Selection Kreinbacher Somlo 2011 and red deer from the Mecsek mountains with Code Cabernet Franc -Kiss Gabor Villany 2011.For dessert my wife had caramel poached apple with Granny Smith sphere with Memento-Bezerics Csaba Zala 2009 and I had a dark chocolate biscuit with salty nuts and praline ice cream with the only non-Hingarian wine of the evening Monastrell dulce-Castano 2006 from Spain. The wineflight could not have been better chosen to accompany these dishes reflecting the expertise of the sommelier. We had excellent coffee snd superb petit fours.I had a glass of vintage plum flavoured palinka- fabulous. This was quite simply one of the best meals we have ever had anywhere.Costes is currently a one Michelin star restaurant but I am sure this will soon increase.I also feel that this restaurant may one day become the world's best like The Fat Duck and Noma before it.Simply excellent but not really cheap €268 but excellence comes at a price and worth every penny. You must visit this superb restaurant.

Dear LMcLO4.

Thank you for taking your time to write such an accurate review. We are happy to hear that we could make more memorable your short visit at Budapest with our dinner.
Our Sommeliers with our Chef work together to find the best match with wines and dishes, especially to find hungarian wines.
It's a highlight for the Chef, his kitchen and for the whole Costes restaurant to hear our name together with Noma and The Fat Duck.

Hope to see you soon.

Best Regards.

“One of the most special meals ever....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2013

We tried to make a reservation for a saturday dinner a few days before we planned to visit, but it was fully booked. we asked if they'd call us if something frees up, and they promised they would. Though I doubted - they actually did- on the day itself, for a table at 7pm. We were delighted, really wanted to experience a Michelin star quality in Budapest and Hungarian food with a twist ;)
It truly was a dining experience, from the beginning, of the welcome of the hostess to the 3 amazing waiting staff that served us (Daniel, Daniel and Laszlo who were all superb in their hospitality and knowledge) and absolutely incredible food that came out with every dish. On top of the 5 course meal we had, the Chef kept sending on small surprises and the 5 course meal ended up being a 9 course meal. The dishes were perfectly balanced, not pretentious and wonderfully tasty. Not small either, so we went full indeed.
There is absolutely nothing I would flaw about this place and it was one of the rare places that absoutely exceeded all of my expectations.
Price wise I think we paid all in all 250€ for a 5 course meal of which one was paired with wine. For a michelin star dinner this really is average price so nothing came as a surprise here either.
The most amazing thing was the fact we felt so welcome and though the ambiance is slightly stuck up and the number of staff impressive, we felt very pleasant and comfortable due to the staff trulyy being our hosts.
One of the most special and memorable dining experiences indeed, shadowing a lot of renowned Paris and London restaurants.
Keep up the great work, and all I can tell you all- make sure to diner there- it's really something.

“An unbelievable dining experience in Budapest!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2013

Wow...what a wonderful restaurant! Having read so many good reports about it on TA, my husband and I decided to have our meal there last night, as it was Saturday, and we wanted it to be something special. We certainly were not disappointed. I could write at great length about everything that was/is good about Costes, but, as other reviewers have said, it won't matter what you choose to eat, because it's all wonderful.
We both chose the four course set menu with wine pairings, and have to say a huge thank-you to our waiter Bela, who recommended some of the dishes we should choose (every one superb), his assistant, Miklos, who was on his first day of working at Costes (and seemed to be coping extremely well, even though there must have been so much for him to remember...the attention to detail is second to none, so well done Miklos!). and last, but no means least, Daniel, our sommelier, whose knowledge of wines was outstanding (every one he chose for us was a perfect match for the courses we had chosen).
In addition, I have to mention the excellent amouse bouches, including the wonderful flavoured butters, the excellent champagne given to us on arrival, and finally, even if you don't need to, you must pay a visit to the toilets...absolutely stunning!!
As others have said, this restaurant deserves to have more than one Michelin star, and though expensive, we felt it was money very well spent...it's not every Saturday night that you can dine in one of Europe's capital cities, so it's as well to make the most of it when you can.
So a big thanks to everyone at Costes for giving us not just a meal, but a superb dining experience.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2013

Okay food but service staff are a little big headed. Food is nice and I can not complain but what stands out is the presentation of every dish. Value wise not great. I wanted this to be perfect but it wa snot in terms of value and service.
