“Lovely old-fashioned cafe. Scrummy cakes”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 8, 2014

We stopped here for an afternoon break from our sightseeing on the Buda side of the river. This is a lovely old-fashioned cafe which is spread over two small rooms. The first room has wooden and glass cabinets where thy display their splendid selection of cakes. It's clearly a popular venue ; there was a steady flow of customers during our visit. There seemed to be a few choices that were only available at weekends, so assume that is their busiest time.

“Delicious pastries with old style ambiance.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 7, 2014

I've been to this old cafe many times. The experience is always the same: friendly and charming. It is the oldest pastry shop in town (since 1827). All cakes I tried were excellent, fresh and yummy, especially the strudels and Dobos cake. But I have to say, it is getting more and more known and crowded. During summer you have to be lucky to get a table...

“Beautiful cakes, place full of history”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 2, 2014

We went there because of the history of the place, the oldest patisserie in Budapest, which (apparently) served Austrian crown as well.

Place is small but well kept, a few steps away from St. Matthias Church on Castle Hill. They have many different cakes, tasty and well presented.

Only one thing: when we asked which was Princess' Sissy favourite dessert, 2 waitresses gave 2 different answers :-)

But it's definitely worth a stop when you will visit Castle Hill

“Good hot chocolate, bad service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 28, 2014

We went here because we saw that it had a high ranking on tripadvisor. We only had a hot chocolate because the waitress told us that they were closing in 20 mins. The hot chocolate with orange was really tasty. However, the whole visit was ruined by two waitresses who seemed extremely irritated by the fact that we went to them to pay, they didn't even try to seem polite. A terrible way to ruin some great hot chocolate.

“Exquisite and worth visiting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 27, 2014

Nice ambience, full of history and delicious desserts and hot drinks. It's a must to visit when visiting Budapest, specially during winter. Don't count calories, just enjoy!
