“Nice restaurant in side street”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 9, 2013

Ruben is located in quiet street, but only 2 min walk from Astoria. Nice little restaurant with two floors. Service was friendly and professional. Food was good. Quite popular, so you may need reservation for friday and saturday. Lunch is very cheap, we did not tried it.

“Nice evening”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 8, 2013

The four of us, two couples, visited this restaurant based on the Tripadvisor valuations. We were not disappointed. We had a nice evening there, good food, a nice rose wine accompanying it based on the waiter's recommendation. I would say the starters and the main courses are excellent, desert is decent, but not outstanding. Our favourite dish was the "Ginger and lemongrass crusted salmon filet, with asparagus and pepper flan", great combination, perfectly prepared.
This place is very good for a friendly chat. Good music selection in the background at a perfect volume. You hear each other very well, no need to raise your voice, while the music still creates a nice ambience.
The staff was quite outstanding, kind, helpful, knowledgeable, making good recommendations.
Definitely a very nice place, and good value for money. Will visit again.

“Excellent restaurant in Budapesdt”

Great food with reasonable price. Quiet place so you can have good discussions. Ruben chocolate delight, served with candied orange peel is a must ;)

“Great food at a reasonable price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 23, 2013

A few weeks ago I was in the museum area to look at paintings and I walked through an atrium to a very narrow side street where I saw a restaurant called "Ruben". The menu was posted outside and it looked quite good. This Saturday evening I popped over there with my wife for dinner. I had heard that it was wise to make reservations but it was cold and rainy and the tourist season was over so I took a chance. I love food and was excited about the crispy suckling pig with champagne, cabbage and onion potatoes.
We were met by the waiter at the door who said that they did have a free table, and led us up to the higher floor which was a bit more bistro like then downstairs but still nice. We ordered our drinks and opened the menus and to my luck the only thing that was missing on the menu was the Crispy Suckling Pig. It was still on the outside menu and the internet menu but never mind, just a small disappointment. My wife ordered two appetizers which were the ceasar salad with parmesan shavings and the fried camembert cheese with blueberry sauce and mashed potatoes. She said they were both quite good and just enough for a fine meal. I ordered the Porcini mushroom cream soup with vegetable shavings and the Oven Baked Trout with a sour cream and cheese topping with garden salad. Both were excellent, the soup being creamy and very tasteful and the trout was cooked nicely. My only problem was the trout was plated on top of the salad on a very thin plate so you couldn't eat the salad until you finished the trout. The manager might want to consider another way to present this dish but it was very good and tasty.
All throughout the wait staff were excellent and friendly. As we live in Budapest 6 months out of the year we now consider this one of our great finds and will be back again and bring friends this time.
