“A great way to learn about the city”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2013

I'm not usually someone who enjoys group tours of any kind, but we decided to do this one. It was a great experience. Even though it was freezing the day we went, our guides were great. They were very real and engaging without being over the top and annoying. We learned a lot, and we felt as though we got to see the city from the perspective of the people who live there. They felt very authentic, and they were willing to answer all questions. The guides work for tips, but it was easy to believe they earned what we gave them. There was no pressure to pay at the end, and the guides handled the tips well. You can pay what you feel they deserve, and they are great about it. When I go back (hopefully when it's warmer) I will take one of the other tours (we did the basic tour).

“Good history lesson but average tour”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2013

We went on the morning tour. Our guide was nice, we got the impression she was a history student as she was very enthusiastic about Hungarian history. We learned some interesting things but i found we spent a lot of time standing around listening to history lectures in dull uninteresting places and less time near the main sights such as the palace and the bridge. I also felt she left out the more relevant information, for example we were told next to nothing about the Chain Bridge or Gresham Palace - some of the biggest sights in Budapest - despite the fact that we spent 15 minutes standing beside them talking about Hungarian food. I felt it was an ok way to get the feel of the city but it wouldn't be worth paying for.

Dear Milkjunkie90,

While impressed by the detail and the honesty of your criticism, I feel that I must point out to you some key points of our tour CONCEPT and CONTENT.

Our concept includes the basic principle of answering every single question that is asked by guests either during, at the end, or AFTER the tour - no matter how long it takes. We are sure that your guide has described the Chain Bridge and the Gresham Palace, however briefly - should you have had ample questions about them, they would have been answered in due course.

On the other hand, we offer tours for which payment is not compulsory,
and if you think that our tour is not worth paying for, we're fine with that; you were and always will be welcome to take any of them in the future.

Thank you for visiting Budapest, and have a nice day!

With kind regards,

Aron M.

“Fantastic, Fascinating and Free”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2013 via mobile

What a tour! Superbly organised with great tour guides Anita and Aaron (spelling?) We took part in the Communist tour and were not left disappointed, highlight of holiday. Lasted around 2.5 hours and covered different aspects of communist Hungary with personal.stories throw in. Final of the part was an communist exhibition in a ruin bar (you were not obliged to buy a drink at all). In terms of it being free you tipped tours what you felt appropriate, no pressure! Cannot recommend highly enough, a must do in Budapest!!

“Walking tours with committed guides !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2013

These free tours are run by young enthusiastic local folks who rely on tips at the end of the tour. They do not make this a 'heavy' deal ...you quietly pay if you want and what you can afford.
We did the city 'sights' tour (about 2.5 hrs) and then the communist tour two days later (about 3 hrs). The former was very good and what you'd expect from a city sights tour , but the latter was exceptionally good with the point of the tour being what life was like in communist Budapest and how it has changed, so more talking than walking ! Despite the cold, none of the 15 or so folks on the tour dropped out ..it was that interesting. Well woth doing.

“do this first when you arrive in Budapest”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2013

I highly recommend this kind of visiting the city:) General Walk & Jewish District are really interesting. The guides are very nice and friendly and do a great job - definitely deserve a tip. You can see that they do it with passion. They show their favorite places witch are worth to see. They respond to any questions and recommend fantastic clubs / resturants / pubs that are not frequented by tourists:)
