“I don't understand how people can rate this as 4 star”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2012

My family went on a vacation across Europe this month and we chose Senator for Budapest. I don't understand how people have rated this as 4 stars, this is fit for only 2 stars.

The staff is quite OK but the manageress is quite rude and not very forthcoming.

We checked into a 2 bedroom for our party of 5 on arrival night. We had asked for a 3 bedroom but it was not available for the night and had to spend the first night in the 2 bedroom. We were shifted to the 3 bedroom on day 2 as promised.

Let me not comment about the 2 bedroom apartment which was not clean, had broken curtains, non-working AC and an uncomfortable sofa bed.

The 3 bedroom we were shifted to the next day was a bit better. It had 2 AC's (there is a charge of 5Euro per night for using the AC) but neither one was functioning upto the mark. After leaving it on the entire day, the temp could stabilize only at 24deg which was quite high for a comfortable sleep.

The curtains in this room were also dilapidated and the light in one of the bathroom worked on its own whim. The attached terrace (though we had no use of) was dirty and unkempt.

The kitchen was under-furnished, lacking basic stuff like, dish rack, tea kettle, napkins and cleaning. They expect you to arrange your own dish cleaning cloth and scrubs!!! The fridge could not even hold our couple of days breakfast supplies and it had an unusually large freezer which was of no use for the 3 days we stayed there. Though the supply of pots and pans was quite adequate for our needs.

2 of the 3 bedrooms were quite adequate but the 3rd was a tiny room with no cupboards where the bed was squeezed in. Lucky there were only 5 of us, 6 and we would not have fit.

The bathrooms were quite neat and tidy when handed over. However, they forgot to place the towels and it took 2 trips to the reception downstairs (you will not believe it but they do not have a intercom to the reception) to get them to supply the required towels.

The apartment is cleaned only twice in a week and the guests are charged 10euro for additional service. This additional service is just not worth the payment since, it covers only dusting the rooms, changing the towels and emptying the dustbins. No vacuum, no change of sheets and no cleaning the bathrooms. Wow, we did not know this and were duped of the 10euro.

I don't think anyone will be able to find fault with the location and perhaps that is the reason why it attracts the clients it does.

And one more thing a note at checkout prompts you to write a good review in exchange for discounts for your next trip. Maybe that is the reason why they have got some reviews which have rated them favorably!!!

Room Tip: Just forget this place....

I'm just back from a 4-day break in Budapest with friends. These apartments are so central with great facilities. The building itself is not great; it was intended to be a shopping centre but obviously never took off. However, at no point did I feel unsafe (4 girls on the trip). The bar downstairs served fab cocktails! There is a 24-hr shop across the road and a 24-hr supermarket at the corner of the street just a few metres away. The wi-fi in the apartments is poor but if you go to the hub area, it's better. Excellent facilities in the apt and really clean. However, no room service while we were there and there was just one towel for each person.

Cheap, very central, noisy during night, problem with parking, difficult to find, dirty walls and floors, scary towels and pillows. But : very central..., nice reception stuff.

Room Tip: If you are looking for reasonable price, is Ok, but not expect too much.

We stayed there for two nights with a group of 12. It was very convenient as we had two appartments next to each other.
For the price you pay, you really cannot complain: appartments are spacious, clean, well located.

I have spent one night there, and i will return next time i would stay over night in Budapest.
The Vaci utca is very near so i spent my free time there, in walking and shopping.
There is all you need in an apartment. The kitchen is very functional with enough space, and with dishwasher. Rooms are nice and beds are good. The bath and closet are separated and very functional. There is a washing machine you can use.
There is a public parking and public garage you can use and i suggest garage as far better and chipper option. There is a bank, ATM and a few markets very near. Markets accept cards so you need cash only for garage.

Senator apartments is a set of flats in a residential building. The one we got, A311 overlooked Király street. 2 bedrooms with a double bed in each and a living room with a sofa which can accommodate 2 persons. The apartment is well equipped, TV+DVD with DVD discs obtainable from the reception. Fully equipped kitchen (water kettle, oven, stove, microwave, filter coffee machine, all utensils...), also hoover, iron, ironing board. Seems new, some water damage in the bathroom but nothing to worry about. Just across the building is a small shop that is open 0-24h. This is the only downside of the apartment, as Király street is very noisy, by day and night also. The reception is located in the middle of the complex on the first floor. Friendly and helpfull staff. Below the building is a parking lot with the following fares: 200HUF/30 min during day, 100HUF/30 min during the night or 4000HUF for 24h. If you need the 24h parking ticket do not take the ticket from the machine but talk to the guard. Outside are public parking spots with similar fares (400HUF/1h, from 8:00 until 20:00 in the evening). Deak Ferenc metro is a couple of minutes walk away, Vaci utca is reachable in about 10 minutes of light walk.

We really enjoyed our stay in Senator apartments... The location is ideal, approximately 200 meters from the metro station ( Deák Ferenc tér ) and tram also. The room was perfect, clean and nice, modern decorated, very well-equipped. The only "disadvantage" is lack city view because the little balcony was overlooking the internal open space of the building. Frendly staff, willing to help. I trully recommend it...
