“Delightfully close and cozy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2012

Close enough to walk to the Opera or to the subway! Great breakfast and comfy rooms! We didn't try the spa, but heard from other guests that it was wonderful! Lots of really great small restaurants are close and its lovely place for a walk!

4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2012

We stayed in one of the deluxe apartments (room 201). Very spacious, modern and clean with two separate bedrooms both with flat screens, as you walk into the room the bathroom is on the right and there is a kitchen area with full size fridge, microwave, cupboards, sink and two cooking hobs. We didn't cook but we did use the kettle for a drinks and the mini bar in the fridge. The beds are on the firm side and we had to ask for more pillows - they only provided one pillow per person. Also two single quilts on the double bed. Although all bedding was very clean, the quality of the pillows and quilts could have been better. Also another small complaint no mirrors in the bedrooms, one full length mirror on the wall opposite the bathroom and one mirror in bathroom, and the bathroom although modern and clean was quite compact and the only hairdryer was in the bathroom! Which mean the bathroom area was quite busy!! A few more mirrors, a hairdryer in the bedroom and I would have given this hotel 5 stars!

The room was very warm, which was good as we were there in November. We were at the front of the hotel and were not bothered by any noise from the street outside, but of course we didn't have the windows open that much so maybe in the summer this could be a problem.

Breakfast was fine for a small hotel. The breakfast rooms are a little on the small size. They provide a small buffet with additional items cooked to order - ham and eggs were excellent!

We used the hot tub and sauna, if you ask at reception they will provide you with bathrobes which were good to use when going to the hot tub, although there is a shower and changing rooms there.

The best thing about this hotel is the location. There is a restaurant opposite the hotel, Chagall Cafe, which is very good. Another excellent restaurant is Klassz, which is only a five minute walk away, head towards the Opera House, turn left at the Louis Vuitton shop onto Andrassy Avenue and Klassz is on the other side of the road about a two - three minute walk. Also if you carry on walking past Klassz you will come to a pedestrianised street which has a lot of great restaurants and bars. Another restaurant we tried was La Pampa Steakhouse, again very good, and only a five minute walk away, head towards St Stephen's Basilica, the restaurant in on the corner of the main street which St Stephen's is located on (sorry can't remember the name). All the main attractions of Budapest was within walking distant - it takes around 15 minutes to walk to the Danube, where you can get a reasonably priced boat trip or have a drink and a bite to eat on one of the many floating restaurants along the Danube. There is a main shopping area behind the Marriott Hotel, which is on the pest side of the Danube near the Chain Bridge. We also visited the Buda side, with the castle and palace. Well worth a visit is the Szechenyi Baths, the hotel reception were very helpful, ringing ahead to make sure the Baths were open, getting our tickets so we didn't have to wait in a queue, and calling a taxi (1,500 hf each way). In fact, the hotel reception provided a lot of information when we checked in, plus a never ending supply of maps (which we kept losing!). Also very nice to come back to a cup of hot mulled wine at the end of the day!

This was our 3rd trip to Budapest and 2nd stay at this hotel. It is in a very good location, plenty of restaurants and bars in the area and in easy reach of the Metro. Rooms are clean and well maintained.

The staff are very friendly and react to queries and issues* straight away. *the safe in our room did not work and was rectified within minutes.

Breakfast is both hot and cold self service and waiters on hand for any requests from their menu.

We tripped over this hotel online from various reviews in tripadvisor and others. It was a lucky trip!! This hotel is in the perfect area for branching out over all of central Pest ( it is on the Pest side of the Danube) For this trip that is the side we mostly concentrated on other than a brief bus tour to the Buda side.

The hotel is everything the people who wrote about it say. It is clean, modern in appointments, has safe, and refrigerator in the room as well as a cooking hotplate and a complete set of dishes and microwave. While there is nothing spectacular or "old" about the furnishings, they are all crisp and clean in a noveau ikea kind of style.

The building itself was originally built in 1899 and there is a neat book in the lobby detailing the history of the opera hotel. Some of it is also on their web site.

They provide a decent breakfast ( eating area is on 2 floors so don't freak out when you only see 3 tables on the first floor!) a small but decent sauna and hot tub ( watch out for the really slippery wooden box next to the hot tub). The small area has 5 exhaust fans so it keeps it pretty decent smelling! They also have an exercise room with a treadmill and a bicycle ( yep that's it). However i would suggest forgetting that and just take off and walk around the city.

The metro and tram lines are relatively easy to use if you learn how to read the destination bars on the station walls and top of the train coaches. There are 3 main subway lines( blue yellow and red) and the ride of your life awaits you in using the high speed escalators to get you deep underground. They feel more like an e-ticket ride.

The hotel provides niceties such as bathrobes and slippers, hot mulled wine in the winter evenings, lots of information and offers about the city, plenty of guides and partnering with tour companies, spas etc, and a breadth of information on what is happening in the city now and how to get there.

They are located near main pedestrian areas, main shopping streets, 100 meters from the Opera house, 100 meters from St Stephens, near all the main metro and street bus lines and can give you instructions on how to take which line to get you where you want to go. Again the ideal location for a peripatetic tourist. They have a quiet concierge system. Ask anyone for anything and they will find it for you. There is no big desk yelling concierge at you. On our first day we found out that there was an organ concert at St Stephen's Basilica- and they reserved tickets for us. They have tickets for the hop on hop off bus which is noce but i prefer the local trains. Hop on and off is 25 Euros ( or some huge number of Florins 5000 or more) for 2 days pass. A one day pass for the subways etc is 320 Florins ( about $1.60 US).

The rooms themselves are an odd mishmash of shapes, some long and narrow but with kitchen area and bedroom area, others square "ish" with separate areas etc. The main feature seems to be two separate areas per apartment/suite/room. One area is for sitting and sleeping, and another areas dedicated to kitchen. ( yes they have a separate bathroom too) I didn't notice any rooms with tubs -only showers- and a bit tight like being on board a cruise ship but totally fine.

Bathroom fans run for a long while after you shut the lights off - to exhaust moisture. It mostly works - only small areas of mold are visible ( yeah im the pesky mold inspector) They did trick out the bathroom by putting all dark tiles in so us mold inspectors have to put on white gloves and break out the ultraviolet to do a proper inspection - haha). Mold here was better than in many other places I have stayed ( or should I say lack of mold!)

Another thing is the roof top terrace- a nice place to view things when it is warm. ( not in late October). The area is ripe with pubs, bars , restaurants, private pubs, a few grates to sleep over in the winter months ( near the opera house), lots of dog surprises, and lots to see and enjoy.

See if you can get a room toward the side or back of the court ( not many of them) since the street can get rowdy at night with a couple of bars, but that only means you should probably get up and go and enjoy the street scene! Finally bring some duct tape to cover up the temperature indicator which shines bright blue deep into the night - and can pry your eyelids open.

Room Tip: Most rooms front the street which can get noisy- try for a side room or courtyard room - not many. A...

Very close to the opera house and the metro. Staff extremely helpful and welcoming especially at reception. Room very spacious and comfortable. Self service buffet breakfast with a very comprehensive choice, some hot items could be cooked to order, with a glass of champagne each day it was a lovely way to start the day. An ideal base for exploring Budapest. There are spa facilities if required.

Room Tip: We had an excutive room which included a small kitchen if you want to do your own food.

We stayed at the Opera Garden in early October. The main purpose of our visit was for me to get some dental implants and London Dental Implants booked us in for 2 nights. Never having visited Budapest before, we decided to make the most of our visit and booked 3 extra nights and we had a wonderful stay. Our room was comfortable and equipped with a mini kitchenette with hot plate, microwave and fridge - very useful after the surgery for the ice packs! The bed was firmer than we prefer but there is a pillow menu and the huge feather pillows were wonderful. The bathroom is stocked with L'Occitane toiletries which was a lovely touch as was the quote of the day left in our room by Eva, our cleaning lady.
Breakfast is a buffet with a few hot dishes, cold meats, cheeses, fruit, yoghurt, jams etc and a good choice of bread, rolls and pastries... And champagne! You can also order a hot breakfast at no extra charge and there was a good choice including omelettes, eggs, ham, frankfurters etc. There is also a dairy-free soft menu for dental patients. Following the surgery, I reluctantly opted for the porridge made with soya milk and cocoa and I have to admit it was surprisingly tasty! The coffee in the jugs is pretty awful but there is a machine and the coffee from that was fab.
All the staff were lovely and so efficient; we asked for a dressing gown (complementary) at the front desk and it was delivered immediately. I had to have extra pillows after surgery and again, they were delivered instantly. They were all so helpful and knowledgeable.
My husband had a rotten cold while we were there and really benefitted from the sauna in the Wellness suite. There's a comfortable and very pleasant roof terrace and I think there is also a jacuzzi and a gym but we were too busy sightseeing to try them out.
Location-wise, the hotel is perfectly situated and everything is in walking distance. The Opera House and Andrassy Utca (the Budapest Champs Élysées) are minutes away and when we arrived, we were given a big bundle of tourist leaflets which helped us make the most of our visit. Budapest is a fabulous city with tons to see and wonderful bars, restaurants and patisseries. We also recommend downloading Trip advisor's Budapest guide. This became our bible for finding good places to eat.
In all, a terrific hotel with friendly and efficient service. Highly recommended! Oh, and the dental implant surgery was a doddle (and less than half the UK price). No pain, no swelling, no bruising and the stitches came out yesterday (in London) and everything is just fine. Thank you to all the staff, we had a great time.

We were a group of 9 and had a wonderful few days at this hotel. The only minor issue was the heat at night but the room was perfect otherwise and exactly as described on the web site. Beds were really comfortable and the fridge very useful. The roof garden and courtyard were great places for us to meet and the complementary sangria in the evening went down well! Breakfast was great and champagne was a nice touch. If you want a friendly hotel in a central location, you won't go far wrong with this hotel. We have been on a number of city breaks and this was one of the best!
