“I want to live there !!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2011

One of the best place I ever seen. Class lessons are so funny, this place is always full of music and life. Staying in the pool on the terrace bar was so great ! The center of Budapest is really close, all the area around the hostel is full of locals pubs, restaurants and clubs ! The staff is amasing, so nice, they help you all the time, give good advices (If you go there trz the bike tour, best day you can spend in Budapest to discover the city !!!) and even show you good places to go after their work. You can spend time with the people who work there when they stop working. And you can make barbecue if you're a good cooker ! I'll be back one day and live there Alex !

There is a lot going on at Casa de la Musica, dance classes/practices on both nights we stayed there, which could be heard from anywhere in the hostel, with practice rooms throughout the building, half the time we thought they were going to come through the roof.
In addition to the there are VERY thin walls - to the point that a normal volume conversation from the room next door kept us awake.
Hot water ran out two out of the three days that we stayed and locks on the shower by our room did not seem all that secure - just a loose hook over a metal clasp.
Good points: free wifi, communal kitchen, helpful staff and free city map.

- Bar in the ground level of the hostel

Cons:
- Horrible mattress
- No privacy at all: transparent curtains, common balcony with full view of the room, common bathrooms without lock

This was my 2nd stay at Casa de la Musica, Alex & the staff are very helpful & friendly. The Hostel has a great location 5 minutes walk to the indoor market & river Danube. Everything that you could ever want from a city hostel is there including free linen, lockers, tea/coffee, internet / wi-fi & luggage storage. There is a nice sunny terrace bar that is great for sitting having breakfast or beers & a cafe serving delicious food, I'm already looking forward to my next vist.

I've been to Budapest about 20+ times and stayed at a lot of hostels there. I lead study abroad programs for American students to the city, and so I am always on the hunt for great places. I have to say that Casa (which is quite new) is definitely the best hostel out there. The people who run the place - especially Alex and Petra - are quite fun, energetic, and provide a lot of tips on where to go - sometimes coming out with us... The lounge/kichen area is small but has absolutely everything you need, including free wifi. Petra is definitely the one with the great club tips... There's a nice mix of dorms - from large to small - plus great singles and doubles, which is perfect for someone like me (I can stay in a single, and have a dozen students or so in the dorms. The place is one of the cleanest hostels around, showers/hot water were good too. The hostel also serves excellent breakfasts (three main choices: cold breakfast for 2 Euro, the best scrambled eggs you will ever have for 3 Euro, or American-style French toast also for 3 Euro). The hostel has dinners for 3 Euro as well, and since I will be going back to the hostel in a couple of weeks, I can't wait to try it out. Another aspect of the hostel i liked was the large terrace and bar, which creates a relaxing and fun atmoshere to the entire place. The dance school also located on the site was also interesting, as it provided a glimpse into Hungarian culture I would otherwise not see... As I lead student groups and take students on trips around the city (to various museums, events, dinners, etc) I was initially concerned about its location, but it turned out that the hostel has probably one of the best locations in the city. This is because it is only a few minutes walk to some of the best places to go out at night (e.g. Szimpla Kert, Corvineto...) but is also close to the Jewish district (and the Dohany Street Synagogue), close to the metro (going to the castle, for example), easy to get to from the Keleti train station (only a couple of stops by bus, about 10-15 minutes door to door), walking distance to the Great Market Hall (a must do) and only a couple of tram stops from the Oktagon area (House of Terror museum, cool restaurants..). In that sense the location is perfect!

I stayed here for 3 nights on my own in a female dorm. I would certainly recommend it....I met some lovely people here, which is not always easy when travelling on your own, lots of people do ignore you, or just not take any interest, bu there were lots of other friendly people to meet. The bar area and restaurant are nice, and cheap, and right in the middle of the hostel.
There is free internet, free use of the kitchen, and common room, and the reception staff are so lovely and helpful, and even show you to your room, and check that you are ok with everything! :) The hostel has a fantastic atmosphere, being a dance school too, and generally is just really good. Breakfast is good too, although if you want a nice cheap option, there is a SPA and a Tesco Express (yes....they ARE taking over the world!) round the corner, so you can go and buy your food from there. It is about a 4 min walk from the Metro station, and bus links are also really good.

The only downsides of the hostel are that the security is not great. Anyone can just walk in, and in reception there were photo's on the wall of peopl who had been caught on CCTV just wandering around, and to tell staff if you see them. Sometimes the people in my room would not lock the door, and you would come back and the door would be unlocked, although there are lockers and padlocks to use if you need them.
The other thing was the bathrooms.....not good! I had an en-suite in the dorm I was in, and it was not cleaned the whole time I was there (thurs-sunday) and no loo paper etc. Plus the shower was a mere dribble, and quite often the water was cold.
The other "problem" if you can call it that, was being a dance school one evening, when I came back to the room, the whole stair well was full of dancers sat on every single step, so it took me about 10 mins of climbing over everyone, and trying to push through to get to the top, and then there were lots more all hovering outside the room. This only happened once though saying this. Other than that though, it was one of the best hostel's I have stayed in, and would deff recommend, and stay again!

The staff of Casa de la Musica here are awesome. They were incredibly friendly and super helpful... they even made us cake! Rooms/bathroom really clean. Conference room was big enough for 150 people. Kitchen tiny, dont plan too much on cooking. We had excellent weather the terrace with pool & bar and courtyard were bumping. We had a wicked time in Budapest!
