“screwed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2011

The restaurant was empty what should have been a warning. The waiter was very friendly. He offered us to try Palinka, a national alcoholic drink. 2000 Forint extra on the bill was the result. One of us had a menu including wine. He had one glass of wine, the next glass costed extra (I don't know for sure but something like 1700 Forint). The menu including wine costed about 2200 Forint more than the menu without wine. Strange! 2 menu's, 2 white wine, 2 Palinka and one mineral water made a total of 88 euro's. Way too much for the qualitiy of the food! Our advise: don't go there!

“Here, they smile!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2011

Went to this little gem after reading an article in the Malev inflight magazine, where varun Sharma of "inside luxury travel" asked the people of Budapest to smile more. Well, come here, then.
The menu is all over the place, mixing Hungarian,. Russian and Aserbadzjan- influenced dishes. The place doesn't accept creditcards, but that's ok, 'cos they're fairly cheap. And smile. A lot! the waiter was really helpful, even with directions when we needed to find our way home on the nightbus system. The cellar is decorated like the menu, really cozy!

“The low point of a trip to Budapest...”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2011

All of our guidebooks said this was the place to go in Budapest, particularly for vegetarian food. We went there one afternoon and there was only one other party in the restaurant (alarm bells should have been ringing), with a waiter casually bumbling around looking a little lost- he duly replaced our pink napkins with red ones, more befitting the time of day (?) and we continued to wait for our drinks and food. We waited...and waited...then the mains started to arrive. We breathed a sigh of relief until noticing that the chicken served was completely raw and another dish inedible (although the one vegetarian dish wasn't too bad). Needless to say we soon got out of there, without paying for the raw food.

At first the slow service was vaguely amusing- 'at least the food will be well cooked', we thought. Wrong! Give this place a miss until they can get their act together...however good it might have been, it isn't now!

“very disapointing”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2010

we went there cause it was recommended in two travel guides. don´t believe it.
we waited 50 minutes for the meal (there were only 3 more couples there) and it was not good at all. the portions were very small, the price absolutly too high and there were flys in the vinegar and oil dispensers. when we ask for new ones, they brought us some, but there were also flys in it. 10 euro for a so-called "marquis de salads"-salad (some pieces of cucumber and paprika, 5 pieces of chicken, which were definitlely cooked too long and some shrimps from the chest freezer) which didn't taste good...far too expensive and it was not worth being called "salad"! the noodles (15 euro) were not al dente at all and the seafood on top from the chest freezer too (and u really had to search for them...there were only a handful on the noodles).
we didn't have to pay for it, because we told the waiter about it...but we spent round about 2 hours there...monumental waste of time and nerves.

“Different, expensive and worth a try”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2010

For a different and delicious experience, this restaurant is worth a try. It specializes in Russian, Azerbijan and other cuisines that are not often found when looking for restaurants. It is also are a good option for vegetarians as they offer several interesting looking vegetarian dishes. My meal started with a salad of corn, chopped beets and other veggies. My main was a delicious Azerbijan lamb dish with tastes and aromas that were rich and wonderful. The restaurant is in a basement which adds to its atmosphere of being different. Although the bill was higher than I expected, I enjoyed the food and the experience a lot.
