“Fab hotel - brill value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 23, 2010

Would definitely recommend this hotel:
Excellent staff - even down to the cleaners being friendly and helpful - one showed me where I wanted to go when I was looking for the wellness centre from a different angle!
Fantastic breakfast buffet - fresh fruit salad and other fruits, selection of yoghurts, selection of juices, great range of pastries and rolls, cheeses, meats and salamis and cooked breakfast selection, good selection of teas and coffees and again the staff can't be helpful enough - nothing is too much trouble
Excellent value
Free wifi
Free tea and coffee before 5pm
Free apples!
Lovely sauna

The only things I would change are (and these are being picky!):
our electronic keys kept not working which got quite irritating
the shower smelt slightly musty the first couple of days
no towelling robes - which would have been nicer than using the changing facilities in the wellness centre
tea and coffee stops being free at exactly 5pm, we wanted one at 5:20pm and had to pay, which is fair enough, but would be nice if it was just always free!
the air con/heating system in the room was really slow, it worked it just took hours - so when the room was at 24/25 degrees when we checked in, it didn't come down to a comfortable sleeping temperature till we had set it to 2 degrees c for THREE hours - just open a window instead!!
need the extra pillow, but ask and it'll arrive instantly
no iron in the room, but we asked for one and it arrived instantly
the layout of breakfast - just a bit too dotted about and squeezed in, during busy times there was a lot of squeezing past people and waiting for people to help themselves first
Gym is literally one treadmill, one bike and some free weights.
room service stops at 10pm

But none of those things would put me off going back and the overall hotel/stay was honestly worthy of a 5/5 rating on here.

We stayed two nights in a junior suite at the Palazzo Zichy in September 2010.

We booked an airport transfer through the hotel, which was very convenient. The transfer is operated by a nice Mercedes Taxi.

The room was very nice and spacious. The Junior suite had a small balcony which looked out on the square and the church in front of the hotel. The bathroom was also spacious enough and had a very nice rain shower.

The decoration of the hotel is very nice and modern. In the afternoon, the free coffee and water is very welcome. Above the bar, one can find an internet center which can be used for free.

The location is a bit of the beaten track, but you can walk anywhere in the city, and there is a metro and tram stop just a few minutes away.

All in all, we had a very good stay. The only negative point would be the breakfast, which was very crowded and maybe a bit too simple compared to the rest of the hotel.

I stayed here for two nights in late October and couldn't have been happier. It is a lovely small hotel, with great staff and very nice rooms. The free Wifi was great, especially since I was traveling alone.
The location is a bit quiet and off the beaten track, but was within walking distance to the river, market and walking streets.
My room was quite small but beautifully appointed. Staff was amazing!
If you're looking for a nice alternative to the big hotels this is a great option. Only drawback is a restaurant for dinner is sometimes a nice back up while traveling solo.

This hotel really sums up why I love Tripadvisor. We would never have found it had it not been for it's rating on Tripadvisor and as with most places we find on here it certainly lived up to its promise. It is a 2 to 3 minute walk to the tram which connect with the underground train, so getting around is never a problem. The decor of the place is stunning and it's hard to believe that the rates are so reasonable.

The location offers many restaurants very close by and I would much prefer this sort of area over an expensive overcrowded tourist zone. The place thoroughly deserves it's number one place on Tripadvisor.

My boyfriend and I stayed here last week for 3 nights. All the previous reviews are true to form, we were very impressed. Check-in was fast, friendly and throughout our stay the reception staff were fantastic in recommending restaurants etc. The entrance is really breathtaking, loved the old and new which were excellently combined. Our room was very tastefully decorated, lovely big shower, excellent facilities, it was a little on the small side but perfectly functional. Only 2 small pillows on the bed but more were promptly provided when we requested them.
Breakfast was gorgeous and has something for everyone, will set you up for a day of sightseeing. Hotel is in a quiet location, bout 10 mins walk from metro, shops etc.
Excellent staff, great value for money, spotless functional hotel, perfect for a city break!

Firstly, let me say that I truly believe that perfection is a very subjective thing. "One mans meat is another mans poison" if you get what I mean. So would I say that The Palazzo Zichy is perfect?..... well, its very, very close. From the moment you step through the 2 sets of glass doors into the reception area, you cannot help but do a double take as its hard to believe that this quality exists at the price point. My wife and I stayed for 3 nights bed and breakfast for just over £150.00 in total!!! That is absurdly good value. We stay at a lot of Marriott group Hotels in the UK and generally pay around £120.00 per night. The reception staff were smartly dressed, professional, polite and knowledgeable on the surrounding area. We asked them to recommend a good Restaurant for our fist night (Borsso Bistro) and it was spot on. The thing that strikes you is just how immaculately clean they manage to keep such a busy Hotel. The contemporary “Boutique” décor fuses seamlessly with the original building façade and the use of materials and textures is beautiful. I work for a professional shopfitting company designing and building interiors for Restaurants, Hotels, Cafes etc.. so I very much know good quality fixtures and finish when I see it. The rooms are on a par for size to other hotels in this class but again, it’s the quality that hits you. The Bathrooms are very well appointed and immaculate. There is a nice powerful shower with a large sunflower spray head plus a standard hand held spray head. There is even a heated mist free mirror, which is a nice touch. Breakfasts can be taken in your room but most people opted to use the dining area which lies below reception. This area even has a partly glazed floor which has pebbles and plants (possibly fake) housed beneath it. Breakfast includes pretty much everything you would want, bacon, eggs, sausages for us “Brits” plus fruit juices, pastries, breads cold meats and cheeses, loads of fresh fruits, cereals, yoghurts etc… coupled with the great kitchen staff “especially little Berrill”. Just off of the reception area is a lounge bar which offers guests free coffee, tea and nibbles upto 5.00pm. Above this is an I.T. suite with around 6 desktop PCs and 2 Laptops where you can access the internet free of charge. All in all, it wouldn’t matter where you came from or what your “normal” budget may be, I would find it hard to understand how anyone would not be impressed with this Hotel even at twice the price. Well done Palazzo Zichy for showing that great quality and service doesn’t have to cost the earth.

My friends & I looked at many hotels online. We lucked out! This hotel is a little off the beaten path, but it is near public transportation or within walking distance of almost anything you'll want to see. The service is excellent. The rooms are wonderful and quiet. The coffee/tea/water/internet lounge is inviting. The day we were leaving for the airport we couldn't have breakfast because our departure was too early, so we received a packed lunch to take along. The desk staff helped us with our flight check in on the Hungarian airline Malev. For the price, this is a wonderful place to stay.
