The hotel is conveniently located not too far from a good choice of restaurants and places of interest on the Pest side of the city. Taxi from the airport costs around £15 and takes about 30 mins. We booked our hotel through Expedia but you can book directly. It’s cheaper to book the taxi though the hotel for the return journey.
Our check-in at about 11:30 am was very swift and efficient and our room, which was ready to move in, was modern and well furnished. We didn’t use the heating as the insulation was very efficiency. The room was kept clean and the large bed was very comfortable. The room had a chair and fridge. The bathroom was large and well stocked. The shower was very powerful.
The sauna is open from 6:00 am to 10:00 am and then 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm but the staff were helpful in turn the sauna on at 4:00 pm for us. We didn’t have time to use the massage facilities.
The hotel only offers bed and breakfast option. The restaurant serves a heathy and reasonably varied breakfast. There is plenty of choice fresh fruits and facility to freshly squeeze grape fruit. The assortment of different bread was very inviting. But the choice of fresh coffee was the best I have seen in any hotel so far.
The staff everywhere in the complex were friendly and most of them in the reception, bar or restaurant spoke or understood English.
Next to the reception area in the bar there is complimentary self-service machine for a choice of fresh coffee and light snacks from morning till 5:00 pm. During this period the cold cabinet offers free still and sparkling water.
The WiFi, TV and DVD
The free WiFi throughout the hotel and the reception area is exceptionally good. The choice of English language channels on TV in the bedrooms was limited. However, there is a library of DVDs in a room near the reception and these are free to borrow.
Our Exceptional Experience
We had booked and paid for non-refundable room for four nights through Expedia. Our arrival in Budapest was delayed by one day due to the fog in London. We asked the hotel if there was anything they could do. The hotel e-mailed Expedia to request first night’s refund to us. Expedia refund us for the first night. What a service from both Hotel Palazzo Zichy and Expedia. Thank you both.
Overall we enjoyed our stay and would return to the hotel. Needless to say we shall recommend this hotel and Expedia to our friends and family.
