“Cosy place in a great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 6, 2012

The hotel is nicely located just below the Budapest Castle, and also good for reaching downtown quickly. Most noteworthy is the staff: very friendly and helpful, thank you again!
Also, being German, being greeted in my mother tongue instantly made me feel home and welcome.
The room was standard size with a relatively big bathroom. Modern equipped, with flawlessly working Internet - no complaints.

We arrived at the hotel on a Sunday evening and were welcomed by a lovely receptionist who processed us efficiently then spent a good few minutes pointing out the many sights of Budapest on a little map which he then gave to us, it was most helpful.
The room itself was clean, warm, welcoming and had a lovely view of the castle wall and quiet road outside. The hotel itself is situated on the Buda side and is a few minutes walk from a public transport hub of metro, bus and tram. Situated next to that is a giant shopping centre called Mammut which has many Hungarian shops, but also many English and German ones.
We walked to Budapest centre in about 25mins - it is a lovely walk downhill then along the river. Whilst the transport hub is so close to the hotel, the walk to the city centre is most enjoyable. Don't be put off by the fact this hotel isn't in the centre of Pest - the walk is definitely not a major effort and is a great way to see the city, also public transport is readily available from the afore mentioned hub and is really cheap.
After a two and a half hour walking tour followed by sightseeing then going to a Christmas market all on the first day, going back to the hotel was a luxury. The room's bathroom has a brilliant shower, lovely and hot, perfect for warming up after a day in sub zero temperatures.
All in all the hotel is welcoming, the rooms are clean and welcoming, and its location is great for getting involved in the city.

A lovely hotel located in the quiet location of the castle area on the Buda side of Budapest. The large room (Panorama Room) was secluded and nicely furnished with an enormous terrace overlooking the city. The young gentleman on the front desk was extremely polite and helpful as were the other staff. The breakfast was good.Admittedly it was the same most days but it was replenished at all times. The breakfast buffet manager was friendly and helpful. We ate one night in the adjacent restaurant and although the food was good (mainly Italian) the waiter was rather offhand and discourteous and when I asked for a glass of tap water he plonked a small glass of Luke warm tap water in front of me.The hotel is easy to get to as the public transport system in Budapest is amazing.I recommend buying a travel card. There is lots to do in Budapest. We visited the opera house twice in 5 days (buy tickets online the month before) .The spas are the great for relaxation at its best and the Buda hills are worth a visit if you have the time (chairlift, cog railway and a children's run steam railway).A great city and an excellent hotel.

We read all the reviews on Trip Advisor before booking this hotel and I can safely say that it is a lovely friendly hotel that is in a quiet part of the City. The staff are all friendly and helpful and the food is amazing. The hotel is on top of a hill and the walk up the hill can be hard going if you aren't fit and able but it is worth it. There is two ways down from the hotel to the City, we went the back way down to the tram (staff recommended the other way towards the Palace) and accidentally found the tram station but glad we did as it saved us a lot of walking. The trams are very cheap we bought a pass for about £5 for a 24 hour pass that you could use on all the trams, buses and metro, well worth it.

I must say that Budapest is one of the friendliest Cities I have been to and the Christmas Fair is lovely.

We booked based on other trip advisor reviews. On booking in the reception were excellent and polite. The room was comfortable, spacious, immaculately clean and could not be faulted for the cost (approx £40 per night for two B&B). At breakfast there was a great selection of fruit, cereals, bread, and hot food (downside was the toaster took 10 mins to just warm the bread up- and no chance of toasting it).
The staff were really friendly and helpful, the waiter at breakfas told us how good the chef was etc and we were going to have an evening meal there- however.....on our second night we decided to go to the restaurant / bar and it was shut at 10pm. The next night we got there at 9pm and thought we would have a bottle of wine and look at the menu for the following night (having already eaten out). Well when we ordered the bottle of wine the waiter gave us a really hard time, did not want to serve us, told us to "sit there" (felt like a school child) and did not bring the wine over for ages, in fact I was so fed up I was about to walk out when he brought it. This is obviously one rogue employee who really wanted to get off home early as the other staff were brilliant. Anyway this peed us off so we never did dine there at night.
Also we ordered 3 bottles of wine over our stay, each of which we were charged a service charge for (despite not ordering food) Does this mean if you order one drink at the bar you will be charged a service charge???? On paying for the wine at the end of our stay I had enough local currancy to pay for the one bottle but the other 2 I paid on my card. The receptionist added further charges more than the price i had paid cash for, when I questioned this I was told that it was a "tourist tax"!! I paid it as taxi driver was waiting but I do feel I was ripped off.
The hotel is close to the castle area (great bonus) but up a hill so a pain to walk back to from Pest. So get a 16 bus.
These were the negatives but the positives more than outweigh the negatives do go there and enjoy it, ignore the one plonker who works there, great value and a good position. A beautiful place to visit..
Go to fekete hollo restaurant in th castle area, the food is superb, wine is dear at £30 a bottle, the entertainers (musicians) are cheeky but a great night out.
Go to the hospital in the wall, under the castle, a great experience and a good understanding of their history.
Go to the island in the river, great place to go chill out, cycle, walk or jog around.
You can get a river cruise to look at the sights for around a tenner for an hour.
We pre booked taxis from and top the airpowhich cost us about 6500 huf theré and 6000 huf back. Cannot remember the name but I found them on here from the chat forum and they wer fabulous. I will look for them and do a write up so check my other reviews.
We went for the gun shooting which was an absolute blast (search on top things to do on TA). It was something you will never experience again!
Great time only neg was stroppy geezer on one night who I never saw again and extra charges on bill, in saying that I would gladly recommend the place and go back again myself.

Room Tip: Traffic noise can be an issue in the morning and evening if you are the front of the hotel, maybe as...

Dear Mpayton!

Let me thank for your time to write your detailed review about your staying in Budapest. Your review is very usefully lesson we can learned from, although let me pay attention to some important information, which may makes clear the miscommunication:

The service fee refers to every product of the restaurant (it does not matter, whether it is taken on place or to go) and needs to be charged by law. This information is displayed on the menu. The most restaurants have this system in Budapest.

The tourist tax is also regulated by governmental decree and the guest needs to pay with his room. The room prize is always included only VAT , (value added tax) excluding city tax. You can check it your reservation confirmation.

Of course, we do apologize for the very unpleasant and impolite behaviour of the waiter. It is our shame as well, and we have already forwarded your complain to the restaurant manager.

As a consequence we are truly glad that you had overall positive experience despite of these facts, and we hope we can welcome you back soon!

We have visited Castle Garden once again...
The conclusion remains the same: this is our place to stay in Budapest!
We have requested a superior room, with a great terrace. I'm already waiting for the spring, for a romantic breakfast on it!

My husband and I stayed in the hotel with another couple and what we wont forget is the helpful reception staff. We were overcharged by the taxi driver from train station to the hotel by 4 times the usual. Feeling that the cost was exorbitant I mentioned this to the receptionist who con fronted the driver but ignored her accusation and fled. Managed to take down the taxi plate number and she reported to the police. We had to leave in a couple of days and could not wait for any investigation but happy to share the experience and commend the hotel Receptionist for her concern.

The hotel location was excellent and the breakfast was great. Will certain ly recommend to friends.

Thank you for your visiting our hotel and for sharing your story with the driver. We are sorry for the issue happened to you make a negative impression in you. Since Budapest is relatively crowded large city; unfortunately there are still some service providers, who use tourists as an extra income not considering the negative effects to the image of a country. We are proud of our team, who do his best to stand by our guests! We do hope that we have the opportunity of welcoming you back to Hungary and you will experience a real positive side of our country such as relaxing in one of unique spas or visiting the world heritage Szentendre!
