“took them extremely long to prepare dishes...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2012

Actually we visited this restaurant by accident. But at the beginning we were surprised how gentle the waitor was and the whole atmosphere was cool! But then the problems started: We ordered everything at the same time (3 courses menu): a starter (soup), a salad and 2 pizzas. For the soup it took them over 35 Minutes. For the salad another 35 minutes. And at the end, when pizzas arrived 2,5 hours after we've arrived, we weren't hungry anymore!!
The waiter apologized several times telling us about how crowdy it was. I am sure, it's not his fault. But if I were the boss, I would organize 3, 4 more waiters for this special crowdy times.
A lot of people in the restaurant were obviously very annoyed.

“Excellent value and excellent food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 26, 2012

We found that restaurant by accident and it was a big pleasant suprise. The dishes are big and delicious. We can recommand ordering the soups, specially the Gullash. The shnitzel is as also great. Enjoy testing Budapest.

“Some Good, Some Bad”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 21, 2012

Eaten three times here with different people in the past five months. One of the major problems is the length of the menu; they try to do too much. Pizzas are excellent, pastas okay, other stuff variable in quality. The menu also skimps on some important facts, such as where the sheep's cheese in the salad is actually grilled/fried and also smoked. All a bit of a crapshoot, but that tends to be the way of places with unwieldy menus. And the service is typically Hungarian; if you want to have the main after the starter, you have to order the main after all starters are finished and cleared away. And beware the seductive charm of a "Martini" at three dollars a pop; it's the bottled kind, not the vodka/gin variety. But all in all, the prices are very reasonable for what you get, although with closer attention to detail and a smaller menu, it could be much improved.

“Lovely Family run restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 12, 2012

Have been eating at the Magdalena for over 7 years now and at least 3 trips per year to Budapest. We have tried other restaurants but have been disappointed and return to the friendly welcoming atmosphere of the Magdalena. We are never let down with the food, service or the ambience. Nothing is too much trouble and the prices are very, very reasonable. Lovely family owned restaurant.
