“Lovely guesthouse right in the center”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 weeks ago

The guesthouse is located not far from one of the main train stations in Budapest (Keleti) and right next to the number 4 metro line and tram line 4 and 6, which circles around the city.

We stayed in the smaller room. Very cozy and felt more like we were home staying or visiting a grandmother's house in Hungary :)
The owner of the guesthouse received us warmly, sat us down and explained to us everything we needed to know to get around Budapest.

Simple kitchen utilities, a fridge, electronic kettle, and microwave is available.
Shower and toilet were shared with another room but it was always clean.

If you are traveling on a low budget but still want to be in the center of the city AND have a bit of a Hungarian life-style experience, this guesthouse is highly recommended.

We really enjoyed our stay. Thank you so much!

We stayed here for four nights. This is about the cheapest double room I could find in central Budapest and it is excellent.

We arrived by public transport from the airport by getting the easy to find 200E bus to the end of the line: metro station Kobanya Kispest, Line 3, then to it to Kalvin ter and change to Line 4 and go one stop to Rakoczi ter. From here it is only about a 1 minute walk. Even though it is a short walk, I recommend looking at Google Street View to find it as the hotel is in a residential building and easy to miss; it does say it in small writing on the door.

The owners are excellent, we were checked in by Margit who only speaks limited English but does speak good German and a little French. Later we met her son Balint who speaks perfect English. I was in email contact with Balint before arriving and he gave us great advice about transport and where to find a laundrette. Both are so helpful and welcoming. The hotel only has two rooms, which branch off their own house which means the owners are always available in an emergency. The rooms are fairly old fashioned but really charming, and very clean. We had the larger of the two rooms and it was huge! It included a TV but lacks a/c. The two rooms share a single bathroom which again is clean and functional with good hot water.

It is located about 15-20 minutes walk from the Danube and Chain Bridge and similar to the House of Terror. Buda castle, the Parliament, Gellert and Szechenyi baths are further. However, remember it is only 1 minute from a metro station and Budapest's metro is extremely good and is really useful for getting to all tourist attractions and main stations. There is also a tram stop right outside on the main road.

Breakfast is not offered but there is a shop nearby where you can buy food. There is a fridge and some plates and bowls you can use in the guesthouse. The Wi-Fi works well and they had guidebooks to borrow and free maps.

The one negative was the lack of a/c as it was 40C when we were there. This meant we had to have the window open and the trams are very loud and run very late which disrupted sleep somewhat. Yet with the incredible value this guesthouse offers, it is still worthy of an 'excellent' rating. I would stay again.

I've spent a great weekend at Margit Guesthouse in Budapest. The accomodation was great, the location is perfect: everything important can be reach in a quoter of hour...
The staff was very friendly, we could discuss everything we needed.
I only can highly recommend them if you came to Budapest!
